Lets see what is a burn-in vs Image retention.

Most of this information is just wrong. OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) contain certain organic materials that create the light. Because of this (being organic), they will [the pixels] slowly degrade over time and give off less light (creating the burn in effect). NOBODY is safe from “burn in” because the OLED will always degrade, it just depends on how long (i.e. it is better to think in terms of total hours, rather than how long per day. Like 9000 hours of total use rather than using for 4 hours a day). As long as all pixels are used somewhat similarly to each other, they will degrade at the same rate and you won’t see “burn in”

This is very helpful, not because I’m getting an OLED monitor but because my IPS monitor had image retention, and I wanted to see if it was screen burn-in or not. Good video 👍

My computer decided it would be nice to wake up from sleep mode in the middle of the night and display a lovely error message in the same spot while the rest of the screen was black. Now here I am with a darker spot smack in the middle of my G9 OLED. I hope it is image retention though, pixel shift was on, brightness on lowest, and other preventative measures were taken.

Im using my sister's old huawei p20 pro and she seems to have watched alot of tiktok because it is burned into the screen. The little plus thing at the bottom is visible and home. And at the top there is that for you text.

Unless you have the windows bar, that will for sure burn in. Hence the middle Windows11 bar, that moves with each new item btw.

Working at a tv brand; burn in can be included with your guarantee but you should have never ignored a oled clean up pr manual skip it atleast. The. The fault is fully on you

If u have to worry about burn in u also have to worry about burn out or dead pixels on OLED it can happen quickly. Also burn ins can happen when watching the same kind of material like the news with the logo in the same spot or a video game with the same UI.

OLED as for me seems like its still in its primitive phase.

How to handle uneven aging with 32:9 monitors, games not always working/not enough gpu juice to run with monitors native aspect ratio. Leaving black bars at sides, causing midle section wear more than sides.

Monitor settings lack options to change black bars to e.g. 50% gray. Any ideas how to handle this?

Image Retention is now "ok" or "normal". There are tons of monitors and tv without image retention.

So what does it mean if a screen restoration message is on on my oled after I’ve played games for over 4 hours and I’ve turned the tv off by the wall after 10 minutes of the tv being in stand by to save electricity ? Well its not “days” because it unrealistic for 99% of ppl and the burn in can happen after hours on the same menu or app that doesnt move a lot and it takes days of doing that per day to see anything but its cleanable using some built in settings before u start causing damage and theres preventing measures u can take to not get that such as letting ur monitor do a pixel clean after it gives u the notification every time
