FYI There is no such thing as a laser rail gun. Lasers fire a focused energy beam / rail guns fire hi velocity projectiles, two totally different technologies.

Us didnt pursue the rail gun because of needed power and the damage to the gun after each shot meaning we cant shot repeatly. But in a defense aspect where you arnt gonna shot to many times and have plenty of on land power its possible . I believe the us said the rail gun is only good for 100ish shots while the normal battle guns on the battle ships are good for up to 10000 shots before you have to replace the barrel.
