Mayday - Target Is Destroyed - Korean Airlines 007

Korean Airlines Flight #007 is high above the Sea of Japan with 269 people on board. Hoping to save fuel during the last leg of its marathon flight from New York to Seoul, it requests permission to fly at a higher altitude. When the aircraft reaches its new altitude, however, it is rocked by rapid decompression, spirals out of control and crashes into the sea. An international controversy erupts, and within days, Soviet officials admit to shooting down the passenger plane. With Cold War tensions at an all-time high, it’s up to international investigators to keep two superpowers at bay... But can they prevent an all-out armed conflict, and can they determine what went wrong?

Gennadi Osippovitch is the one who shot that plane, he said in his terrfying experience he said there no choice to shot the plane, Gennadi warn them to go but there is no respond, so they have no choice to shot the plane.

I can't blame the Soviets here. This is a very severe case of pilot error, I do believe they forgot to switch to Nav mode, and sheer negligence to fail to confirm their position.
