Heavy snow has reduced visibility on the approach, but the experienced crew continues the descent to Zurich. Despite the pilots not being able to see the runway, they decide to abort the manoeuvre and apply full power to all four engines to get their plane to climb. The aircraft clips the treetops below and plunges into a hillside. 24 of the 33 people on board are killed.
