Why Didn’t Obi Wan Use Force Speed To Save Qui Gon? 🤔

Why didn’t Obi Wan Kenobi use Force Speed to catch up and save Qui Gon Jinn from dying?

And a ton of people have asked this question since we see this Force ability being used at the beginning of the Phantom Menace when both Jedi used it to escape the droidekas!

But why couldn’t Obi Wan use it to save his master?

You see, Force Speed drains the users energy very fast and Obi Wan was already tired from fighting Darth Maul and he also used a ton of strength with his Force jump to catch up to the fight!

So by the time he’s running to the room where Maul and Qui Gon are fighting, he’s completely exhausted and couldn’t use Force Speed even if he really wanted to!

I always thought it was because the writers completely forgot about it since it was never used again, like ever.

The better question is, why didn't Qui Gon wait for backup to arrive? It's not like Maul had anywhere to go, unless he decided jump down the reactor shaft.

There are 2 other reasons why Obi-wan didn't use force speed besides it draining his energy.

1. He didn't know if the energy gates will incinerate his body or not so he couldn't risk hitting the gates.

2. There's a giant hole at the end of the room. Even if Obi-wan made it past the energy gates, he'd risk slipping and falling down to his death.

Qui-Gon was doomed no matter what Obi-wan could do.

Very convenient way of explaining away a random, never acknowledged, never used again, OP ability. People would lose their shit if something like this happened in a Disney show/movie.

Also if he did use it to reach Qui-Gon and Darth Maul, he would be exhausted and would be easy pickings for Maul to strike done and Qui-Gon would more likely as well for his age and form IV leaving him open for no defense

As introduced in Jedi Survivor, the Force Dash doesn't drain any force and allows you to move through lasers. He could have done that.

Not to mention Jedi are meant to be wise, if he used it and fell or sacrificed himself to protect Qui Gon, it wouldn't fit the character as that would be a dumb decision.

You could just ask why don't all jedi do it all the time. I mean i think it should be used a bit more but obviously its just not that easy all the time.

There always using force speed but the movie is slower for us to see compared to the cartoon where mace is moving fast all the time

Also Owbe Wan would have needed to use even more energy in brain power to make sure he got the timeing right or those sheilds could close on him and that would kill him.
