The Apple iPhone 14 Pro Max may be the phone that will make me leave Android, but why would I switch to an iPhone from Android? In this review, I share how Android makes me think of switching to the iPhone 14 Pro Max despite the only interesting new feature being the dynamic island. Whether or not I actually switch from Android, only time will tell.

Thank you for being the only person I've seen mention that crash detection came to the pixel first 😂

I was a lover of Android devices. They are unmatched in customization and personalization but I switched to iPhone because Apple just works, period. My last Android was the S22 ultra with 512gb and its display was absolutely gorgeous….until I started having overheating problems. There were times it got so hot that I was seriously worried it was going to burst into flames. I wanted it to work. It was a powerful and capable device but as you said, the Apple ecosystem just plainly works. I now have the 13 pro max. Everything just falls in line, from set up out the box, to tying up all your 🍎 gadgets, smoothly. I’m at the stage in my life where utility is way, way more important than cosmetics .

I’m actually looking to return to android after iPhone 13 pro. iOS is quite annoying to use even after a year and also both iOS 15 and 16 have shown me that it’s not just android that launches with bugs.

As a 10+ year Android/Pixel user, I finally switched to the iPhone 13 Pro Max two months ago mainly for the same reasons you mentioned in this video. At first, it was very weird adjusting to iOS and it did bug me with doing things in a "different" way. Here are some of the reasons why I made the switch and some of the gripes I have with using an iPhone:

1. The Pixel 6 Pro battery life was horrible, even after getting the phone replaced by Google support, I would have to recharge in the afternoon on light to medium use.
2. Pixel 6 Pro would stop charging wirelessly even on Pixel stand gen 2. Got a replacement from Google and still had the same issue. Phones would overheat.
3. Calls made from Pixel 6 Pro would always not go through the first time so I would have to redial. Same with when someone called me, they would have to call me multiple times. I tried turning off wifi calling and still the same problem. Did not have this issue with my Pixel 4, Pixel 3 XL, Pixel XL
4. Android 12 and 13 bugs in general seem to have gotten worse over time
5. No consistent cohesiveness with Google app design language
6. Not as good of an integration between Google devices; no official tablet, no official watch (at least for now). Apple integrates Mac, watch, tablet, and TV better.
7. Side note, Google Chromecast 4K also very slow, buggy, sluggish, and crashes; which I would use my Pixel to cast to
8. Messaging is better on iPhone, no question about that

Annoying things with the iPhone I experienced:
1. You can only change the default apps for browser, mail, and maps (at least that's what I discovered).
2. Apple music will keep taking over and auto playing with no good way of disabling it. I ended up deleting the app so I can use YouTube Music instead
3. No casting :(
4. No call screening and no option to archive messages
5. Siri not as good compared to Google Assistance, especially with voice dictation and recognition.
6. Notifications are slightly better on Android, but iOS has improved
7. To get the most out of the experience, you really need to be in the Apple ecosystem

I'm sure there are more things I have that I can't think of and don't want to rant too much. So far I have not regretted switching to an iPhone due to it being more stable, longer battery life, better messaging and integration with other Apple devices.

Would be happy to answer any questions and comments.

I just switched and the biggest things that I have complaints are about the lack of an actual consistent back button I know it seems crazy but it's true I was using a Google pixel 6 with Swype and loved it. another crazy thing is the ringer volume and the alarm volume are still tied together after all these years there's no independent adjustment. That being said I will too miss the call screening from the pixel, but the iPhone UI, the fit and finish and the face unlock that is absolutely almost so fast and good that you don't even notice it's doing it is amazing.

This video summarizes a lot of my frustrations. I'm on Android + self-built PC and I'm thinking of switching completely over to Apple for my work. My phone experience can occasionally be frustrating. My PC is blue screening because of premiere and I've looked through logs, stressed tested my hardware. I just want things to work and it seems more often than not that happens with Apple and I just have to give up some freedom and customization to do so.

I've been using Pixel3 for almost 3years (bought it in 2019) running Android12 (the last OS for it) and all I can say that it's generally satisfying. So, I have no plan switching to iOS in, at least, the near future.

Hey Brandon, I'm in the same camp as you. As a tech-lover, I have iphone 11 pro, S21 ultra and Google Pixel 6 Pro that I'm using right now. Every single time that I take the phones back out to test and play with, I come across a few things that are dealbreakers to switching.

1. Google Pixel selfies are the most skin-tone accurate, and flattering. Samsung and iPhones new phones all oversharpen the skin and it's really unflattering and gross tbh.

2. I really don't like not being able to set Google photos as my default album. You're basically locked into the Apple ecosystem if you switch. Everyone on the iPhone has a photo album that is super cluttered. There are no good ways to organize photos unless you want to go through them all one by one.

3. I use "Hey Google, take a selfie" and on the Pixel 6 series I don't have to follow up with Hey Google, take a selfie. I can just say it again right after it snaps the shot and it will take another one. I can do this for a string of selfies and it's the closest thing to having a photographer when you have a flexible detachable stand like Lookstand. Sadly, Siri doesn't even understand "Take a selfie", I'm serious... try it.

I'll never switch to iPhone out of pure spite because of the "Blue Bubble" superiority complex some of my friends and family have lmao. No matter what you decide to do, I look forward to hearing about it❤️

I was a long time Nexus/Pixel user and ditched them at the Pixel 4 when they refused to add a wide angle camera and the pixels poor video features, which I still think is relatively limited even today.

So I switched to the Note 10 and never looked back. I am now a happy S21 Ultra owner and love the cameras and video quality and features.

The iphone is always a bit of a temptation but I need to be able to change things up every so often and Samsung has so many cheesy bells and whistles that I love to mess around and change my user experience. Another factor is the weight and feel of the iPhone's weight...just feels like a tank, even compared to the S21 Ultra lol. Anyways great video and lots of valid points! 👍

My biggest gripe in a mature smartphone market is that we can't we have flagship-grade hardware in a smaller form factor. Having upgraded to the P6P from an iPhone 7, I never realized how much I prefer the smaller phone size for daily use. It's great for consuming video content, but not much else. I don't want to go back THAT far in size, I just want a happy middle ground.

I’ve actually been using the iPhone 12 Pro Max and I’m somewhat liking it better it just seems to work other then weird smaller keyboard I’m in love with this thing lol especially the battery deference’s from my pixel! Though I do miss the better out of the box camera! But as you said I think we all just want a phone that works and not always feel like it’s in beta testing mode 😅

This reminds me of when I switched to iPhone last year.

I was a diehard fan of Android for like a decade. I mocked Apple at every opportunity I got.

But while I was doing that, I was also experiencing weird issues on my Android phones all the time.

I won’t name each device specifically, but here’s how my experience with my last few Android devices was:

1. My earpiece’s volume was too darn low. So low that it was impossible to attend calls anywhere other than a pitch silent room. It was a known software glitch, and I never got a fix.

2. My phone used to hang a few times per day. The touch simply stopped responding. I had to lock and unlock the phone for it to work again.

3. My in-display fingerprint scanner completely stopped working. Even the option for FP scanner disappeared from the Settinhs app.

Then, in 2021, I switched to a 2018 iPhone XS max because I got a good deal for a used one. I just wanted to try it. And for the first time in years, I could rely on this thing. It was a phone I trusted, even though it was 3 years old when I got it.

I’ve been sticking with iPhones since then.

Nowadays, I have two phones. An iPhone 13 Pro as my main phone, and a Pixel 6 Pro as my secondary phone. And even now, I trust the iPhone much more.

I switched over to iPhone 14 Pro max from s21 ultra. Moved to android after iPhone 7 and now back to . iP7 > Pixel 2xl > Note 10+ > S21 ultra > iP14 PM. Android has been good and was excellent for customisation, direct downloads and larger vibrant screens. But moving back to iPhone now, the overall experience seems more polished and neat. Miss the customisation options, but happier overall with build quality and performance. Samsung have a lot of options but you don’t use them a lot after initial interest with the feature.

I've been wanting to switch and try out the iPhone for the past 2yrs, but Apple just seems to be really good at not giving me a reason to - considering I can only afford the entry level option. Sure, the Pros are great and they're the ones Apple want you to have. But for a similar priced Pixel 6 Pro as Apple's entry level, I already have so much more with my Pixel that any upgrade to Apple's entry level will always be a downgrade for me: 1440p120 display, good triple cameras, decently good battery (and charging speed, though Google needs to step up their game), file transfer versatility because of USB C, and also the availability of 3rd party apps to do, *ahem, 3rd party things. Being able to try out new features is also fun and refreshing.

I'm not a vlogger, so superior video on the iPhone is nice to have, but not a must. I have my own editing style for my photos, so either phone works for me, though Pixel gives me more detail and range, I just tune my photos accordingly anyway. I will acknowledge that apps on IOS are superior, and privacy on IOS is my go-to standard.

The things that are making me leave Android however, are Google's unresponsiveness, slack in confronting issues, and inconsistency in their updates/features. Also, specifically on the P6 Pro, the fingerprint reader. It's a "small thing", yet because of how frequently we engage with the FP reader, the failure rate hits you more frequently than an unresponsive app.

One thing I've found with any Samsung phone I've owned is that it starts having glitches in apps and start having issues with my keyboard about 3 to 4 days just before an update comes through like clockwork every time. Once the update comes through and I update my phone; all issues that I once had all go away.

Honestly, apple hasn't given me a reason to switch back to iOS.
I'm sticking to Google Pixel till then.

First 5 mins and this was exactly why I now have the iPhone 14 pro. I still use my pixel 6 but it’s very sad that a Google phone can’t play YouTube reliably. But my biggest issue was my pixel died so fast.
