Making my own chipotles was definitely worth it

Chipotle peppers are smoked and dried red jalapeños. That's it. I use a kamado-style smoker grill to smoke the red jalapeno peppers for at least 2-3 hours. The temperature needs to be very low to avoid cooking the peppers, ideally around 160°F or so. After smoking, all that's left is to dehydrate the peppers into dried chipotles. These smoky peppers are a flavorful addition to spice blends, rubs, and soups and stews. Yum!

I tried this yesterday, it was a fuc4ing awesome idea, my house smelled like heaven when I brought them inside and turned on the dehydrator. I’ve never smelled anything like it. First year growing peppers, I’m hooked. Thanks for the great channel.

Yeah these are better than jalapenos, spicier too. Even though it's the same pepper.

Question ... could you use frozen jalapenos for this? All my peppers have went in the freezer this summer while i try to decide how to best use them, thanks.

Heck yeah, brother. Thems make some good taco meat. Them guajillos and poblanos too, with a little caldo de res, garlic, onion, cumin, and tomato paste marinade.
