As a die hard chipotle fan, I have found a way to minimize all the bad stuff while still attempting to prioritize taste/health/affordability. Here is what I usually get in a bowl:

Brown rice, pinto beans, fajita veggies, steak or chicken, green salsa, corn salsa, lettuce, and cheese. Sometimes guac if Im feeling low on healthy fats.

Here is my explanation and Im assuming you have a basic understanding of nutrition.

Burrito v Bowl : Bowl is healthier for obvious reasons

W rice v B rice: Brown rice wins. While it is marginally higher in calories + fats, it has 160 less mgs of sodium per serving and 4 less grams of carbs per serving.

Black vs Pinto: Pinto wins. Less calories, less carbs, less sugar, and more fiber per serving.

Meats: Chicken has the best stats of them all. Least sodium, highest protein, everything else has a marginal difference besides the amount of cholesterol. If youre most concerned about your cholesterol then steak would be the best option because it has the less cholesterol and comes in at #2 stat wise. Every other meat option has wayyy too much sodium (over 50% dv in just the meat alone).

Salsas: These are the real sodium bombs. The winner here is green salsa (260mgs). In particular avoid the mild salsa (550mgs) and the hot salsa (500mgs). Corn salsa coming in at 350mgs but it has a lot more carbs than the rest so keep that in mind.

All the other free toppings (cheese, sour cream, lettuce, fajita veggies) have pretty good stats. All low in carbs, sodium, and calories. All guilt free so pick which ones you like the best. Although if youre really trying to minimize calories then you could go without the sour cream. Its not bad though, only a 110 calorie difference more or less.

Additional toppings ($$): Queso vs Guac, guac is the obvious winner. No explanation needed. If youre looking for a source of healthy fats then I recommend guac. The stats on it are great and it has numerous health benefits.

It breaks my heart to say it but the chips are hands down the worst thing in the menu in terms of health. I could eat two bags without stopping but if I did then I might as well order a whole new entree because it has roughly the same amount of calories and even more cals from fat lol

Tailor this information to your nutritional needs and feel free to switch it up if you want. Religiously following any dietary regimen will always lead to burn out, and if you burn out then you will instantly throw away whatever regimen you were following. Set yourself up for success. I rarely order the same thing each time, mainly because I try to avoid burnout and I really enjoy variety. I know the worst ones to avoid based on my nutritional needs. Sometimes ill get the unhealthier options like queso, chips, white rice, mild salsa, etc but only if I know my sodium intake that day is close to 0. White rice, black beans, Al pastor, sour cream, cheese, guacamole, lettuce. Sides: queso (pour on top), sour cream (full spoon) mix with the vinaigrette (pour on top). Dip your chip or mix and eat it! ❤

Rice, fajitas, double shredded beef, pico, green salsa, extra corn, cheese and sour cream and vinegrete mixture….side of chips guaca and queso and tortilla…..expensive but a meal for 2 days and maybe even a snack lol
