RimWorld mods are GREAT, but the base, vanilla gameplay is also excellent -- and a great way for new players to learn the game! NOTE: This was recorded prior to 1.4's release.

The way you paused and went quiet when that colonist brought the thrumbos in was hilarious

Quill has some of the most insane Rimworld luck. Awful killbox/defenses but doesn't matter because raiders/insects just straight up ignore his pawns to roam around and get shot at. He had a raid literally walk directly into his base through a wall and it barely mattered lol. I wonder if changing the difficulty mid-playthrough makes a difference because my "losing is fun" raids definitely do not fuck around as much as his do (in this playthrough.)

Edit: He also had a pawn get directly struck by lightning and completely shrug it off. Not hating, I'm just in awe of his RNG.

You yoinked simple meals from the ambush, so those cooks maybe.

@33:40 "I need more Cloth...." It sounds like you don't realize you can use any textile or leather to make sandbags. I'm using rhinoceros leather as I had a manhunter pack of them early on in my ongoing vanilla 1.3 run.

Out of curiosity, seeing you probably know @quill18 can you use Tainted items for a quest, say the Flak vests you had for a previous quest, if you had tainted vests around, wil or can they be used for a quest?

I can't remember, didn't Berg do that to the other psychic ship, too?

36:46 "Incompetent cook' FP* events are from the v low random chance of any meal being tainted, no matter the cook's skill or room cleanliness. There's the same (if not zero) chance from 'stolen' meals; however, the taint will spread to the entire stack if meals are stacked together. This is one reason I dislike (tho still use) batch cooking: the number of potentially tainted meals instantly quadruples, & if that batch of 4 is split &/or merged with other meal stacks, it'll spread v quickly :(
*Food Poisoning is a hidden stat for every foodstuff, with the chance increasing depending upon a variety of factors; "Prevention can only be guaranteed by exclusively consuming meals from traders as they will never cause food poisoning, by only eating nutrient paste which will never cause food poisoning, or by installing a sterilizing Content added by the Royalty DLC or nuclear stomach Content added by the Royalty DLC in the pawn which renders them immune" states the RW wiki, along with 'constantly enforcing [the] kitchen cleanliness to > -2' will eliminate FP occurring from that stat, but not from the pawn's Cooking skill (the 2nd FP chance roll)

If any pawn has a high enough Handling skill (10+), it can be v useful to at least to /try/ to tame any Thrumbos appearing. Success won't happen v often, but the potential rewards are well worth the effort now Thrumbos no longer have a 'attack on failed taming' chance! They eat a /lot/, & any caravan appearing at your colony almost certainly won't carry enough silver to buy them (~>2.5K increasing with how well trained), but they make the very best animal fighters, fast riding animals for caravan speed & at minimum can be slaughtered for increased yields of fur & meat
