Just what I wanted to know! I like your honesty and thoroughness. I will stick with my 70-180. It also has better flare resistance. Always love your reviews.

I plan on using this lens for video (documentary style work) and photography. I have it pre-ordered and still think I'll get it because for the work I do it's a good match. A two camera kit with this lens and a wide angle like the 16-35mm would cover pretty much all my needs.

I was one of the people considering this one - but in the end I have ordered a Sigma 24-70 F2.8 In the end it's down to the fact that 35 is often not wide enough and a bit too heavy for general shooting. I honestly thought this would be a lens for someone like you who is a lot more portrait focused for photography. I think 35mm is a great starting point for anything with people in... and all the way to 150 is quite a unique focal range.

What IBIS would you get using it on the A7 iv, or the new A7 R v?

I wish you have done a video AF test and focus breathing test with the lens

Good review sir. I like that you showed this lenses abilities and faults. It is a good lens in my mind after watching your review.
Also I am thankful for your videos. They are helping me become better at shooting my own videos. (:

It seems like the IQ and focus of the 35-150 is quite good, considering the range and aperture. However, I wouldn’t use it for sports, as a 70-200 would work better and I don’t usually need wider for sports. I wouldn’t use it for portraits, as there are better primes and zooms, albeit with a narrower range. However, the range and aperture of this lens is just the ticket for a one lens solution for indoor concert photography and video, as long as the ambient light is not extremely dim. Medium wide angle to medium telephoto is exactly the range necessary for concerts, if one is 10 to 25 meters from the stage. This will even work for this purpose on apps-c, as long as I am not too close to the stage. With the range of focal lengths I need for concert work, I usually have two camera bodies with different lenses, working them both. This new lens might allow me to do it all with one body, as long as the lighting allows F2/2.8 to work ok.

My mental model for that lens is it's the street fair/parade lens. Quickly do a wide shot or something a bit telephoto. But in that situation it needs to control flare and it needs to focus pretty fast. The fact that it isn't as good at those things and it's heavy and it's expensive? It's just too much of a compromise. Maybe if they'd done it for closer to $1, 600 I'd be more tempted but as it is? I'd rather just get two separate lenses that cover that entire range and do it better. Sure, I switch between the two for long v. short but I'm OK with carrying two lenses instead of one.

Tamron put a new AF motor for the lens, but the AF performance is disappointing. Do you find the AF drive speed being (as fast or) faster than 75-180?
I think a firmware update after release may improve drastically.

Been saying that tripod foot on your last video. As per my experience with the Sigma 105. The heavy lens will yank your camera mount. But this is an awesome video Matt as always. Good morning from Canada

Actually impressed that they did a 35-150 f2-2.8 lens. Would make a great, fast, travel zoom you can use indoors. Pair it with a wide angle and it would probably make a great 2-lens travel kit with fast glass. Would be nice if they could have done a version of this lens (2-2.8) for Nikon and Canon (they have the 2.8-4 for Nikon).

I'll choose 70-200GM II over this one. This lacks image stabilization and is heavier. I can wait month longer saving for Sony lens to get the ultimate one.

Appreciate this video....I'm a Nikon guy with a 2.8 24-70mm lens which I love: I can also use use my camera crop feature of 1.5 which gives me a 35-105mm..am I cheating? :)

What is the manual f/1.0 lens at 6.18 love the bokeh it gives, for me they might be the best images in the video 😃

Would you say it's a good gift first / travel lens for beginner photographer with no kit?
