Mitsubishi Triton 2020 review

If you're thinking the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton looks just like the 2019 model, you're dead right. And it's not just from the rear either, the front is identical too, but it has been updated, barely eight months since the big update we saw at the start of this year.

Mal Flynn road tests and reviews the 2020 Mitsubishi Triton.

Does it represent good value for the price? What features does it come with? 9/10

Is there anything interesting about its design? 9/10

How practical is the space inside? 8/10

What are the key stats for the engine and transmission? 8/10

How much fuel does it consume? 8/10

What safety equipment is fitted? What safety rating? 8/10

What does it cost to own? What warranty is offered? 8/10

What's it like to drive? 7/10

Verdict

It's good to see Mitsubishi refining the product so quickly, and the Triton represents a good value, quality ute. It'd just be nice to see the most important active safety gear fitted across the range.

I always thought the hilix was the best pickup but my little encounter with the triton has changed my opinion

I have driven all other 4x4 brands and must say this, the Mitsubishi 4x4 chassis is the best what gravel and muddy roads concern and been proofed in all mines where I follow the Company trucks into the mining areas with limited roads

After having this (2019) for 3 months and goes back to drive the (2018) hilux, i feels the hilux is so under equipped and so much more expensive.

Upgraded to a 2020 triton, after testing ranger, hilux and dmax. There’s a reason they own the private buyer market - so much better than the competition when you drive them And compare them all, and that’s before you compare the price tags! Do yourself a favour and drive them all yourself and compare. A lot of these company reviews have a real bias. Absolutely love my triton.

Just collected mine today. I waited for this new MY 20 GLS over the MY 19 GLS. The locker got me. Much more spec.
Glad I waited an extra 5 weeks to get this model.
Don’t care about the chrome rear bar as a canopy will be going on.
After testing the Ranger, Dmax and Hilux, this is where my money was.
Happy customer.

Even more bang for buck, unreal... well done to Mitsubishi, such a great ute! and No Toyota DPF issues or Ford warranty issues either....

Looking at a twincab for my long service grand tour in 3 years time. Triton is at the top of the stack.

Just in case anyone is interested/concerned. I hear a lot of people complaining that the tub liner is ill-fitting and it is difficult to loop around ratchet straps and thicker lengths of rope to the tie-down points. Yes, for a little while it is, but after lugging a lot of crap around in my triton for the last 6 months i've noticed it it has gotten noticeably easier. Ratchet hooks loop in and come off more easily that they used to and when taking them off I'm not having one hand on the strap and another pushing down the tub-liner. Wether this be because the constant [and demanding] use has loosened the liner a little bit or something else at play I can't really tell you. Anyway, just something to bear in mind and don't let it turn you away.

The sports bar is no great loss, saves you throwing it in the bin when you fit a canopy, or a tray. The rear diff lock is a much better inclusion. Thanks for the update, gentlemen 👍

Well done Mitsubishi. This and the Delica van could be the last two good vehicles Mitsubishi makes. As a Yank, I'm sad I can't try either. I do have an Australia road trip planned in 2023, though!

Why people still buy a hilux has me stumped.

This will be my next Ute. I will never buy a Hilux, it’s over price.

So basicly for those of us (me) who already bought the GLS Premium 2019 model, this 'update' doesn't concern us XD

If the Pajero Sport I own is anything to go by (which is based on this), this new one is going to be hard to beat, tech and specs-wise. The Super Select II 4WD is such a boon on- or off-road. Towing is nice and strong, off-road comfort is good, doesn't get scraped as easily as a Hilux/ Fortuner nor does it scramble for traction like the Colorado/Trailblazer does and has enough grunt to reach upwards of 180kph even with 4WD mode engaged. I love mine so much that I'm inclined to purchase a GLS-P Triton.

So, i don't live in Australia and i just don't understand: A fully loaded Mitsubishi Triton, with all the modern safety features + a 360 degree camera and 7yrs warranty for 50k AUD and still isn't the most sold ute?! The top of the line Ranger or Hilux cost 7k or 10k more and I think they don't have all of these specs.
