Nancy Litten is a pianist, violinist and music teacher who studied at the Royal Academy of Music, London. She has pubUshed many books of pieces for young musicians.
She says ofthjs piece: 'I visualise this sad ghost having a peep at its old haunts and, when the coast is clear, gradually making itself at home and even forgetting its sadness and reUving happy times. But it disappears into the afr at the end.'

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 48 bpm. A good legato (smooth) touch is required throughout, but watch out for the staccato (detached) notes, as seen in the left hand part of bars 3 and 6. It’s also advisable to be aware of the importance of playing very dynamically with lots of subtle differences in volume. For example, in the opening three bars we see the markings: p (soft) and pp (very soft). It’s worth experimenting by playing those first few bars to see if you can develop subtle differences in volume between soft and very soft.

Also be aware of the temporary change from Bass Clef to Treble Clef in the left hand part from bars 4 to 5. The change occurs again from bars 15 to 20, and one final time from bar 25 up to the final bar.

In the footnotes of the exam book, the composer imagines a ghost floating around its old haunts when the coast is clear, and eventually disappearing into air at the end.
