The Irish composer Bernadette Marmion was born and brought up in Dublin. She studied at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, where she later taught, and at University College, Dublin. Her compositions include piano pieces, chamber music, songs and choral works.
She says of this piece: 'Imagine a summer's day, with a boat gliding peacefully down a river; a light breeze gently stirs the willow trees which overhang the banks. Along the way the wind becomes a little stronger, disturbing the water, but calm soon returns.'

TECHNICAL CONSIDERATIONS
ABRSM’s recommended tempo for this piece is 48 bpm although a little looseness in tempo will most likely suit this style, as it needs to sound calm and relaxed and not too metronomic.
A good Legato touch is necessary throughout and use of the sustain pedal is encouraged. Give careful consideration of the poco rit. which occurs three times during the piece. Dynamics are straightforward.
