Thanks for the helpful video Linus! I'm gonna upgrade my memory from 3000 mhz to 1333 :)

So... buy RAM that make you motherboard look pretty?

You should always get the Dodge Ram...

I use a Dual Channel set up with roughly 2200 mhz and 665Mhz Dram, I have four sticks so its basically two dual channels. They work very well for me, and they are not top of the line, but they are high end. I wouldn't personally pay over a thousand dollars for ram, I kinda feel that if you have the highest ram, and a shitty processor, whats the point? Ya know?

I remember when I was a noob and bought ddr4 memory for a ddr3 board lol.

Could you please do an updated video on this? A reddit post featuring an experiment showed there are noticeable gains with faster ram especially in CPU-intensive games.

your post dates help me get a window to how behind the times i am! this was made 9 years ago and i just moved to 2400

Very interesting results there, didn't expect that at all.

you summed up the whole thing in one video, which i thank you for,

You get 2400mhz RAM for the same reason you get SLI GTX 980s.

Because its badass.

Highspeed RAM is VERY good if you use an APU, such as an AMD-A10, or even with Dual Graphics combined with a dedicated GPU! (As the APU uses RAM as VRAM.)

The only real reason for getting higher clocked RAM would be APU gaming.

Thanks, this was very informative and helpful!

It seems from this video that 1866Mhz CL9 is the sweet spot for the Ram that was tested by Linus. It may be a marginal increase in performance, but an increase all the same. I've just bought 2X4Gb of Corsair Dominator Platinum 1866Mhz CL9 to go into my new build, using an i5 4690K and booted from a Samsung XP941 256Gb SSD which is plugged straight into the PCIe X4 lane to achieve max speed. All this will be put together with my new Gigabyte G1 GTX 970. It's like anything.... You can have amazing ram, but if you couple it with crap components, it's like trying to polish a turd, so to speak.

I have 800Mhz. You CAN buy it, and I am an idiot.

Something else that a lot of people won't tell you (and by people I mean the ones trying to sell us stuff) is the fact that most of the time RAM won't even function beyond 1333mhz unless directly OCd within the BIOS.

After watching this video... I'm gonna go shop for money.

So, instead of buying a higher frequency RAM, just save for a better GPU, kids.

High frequency RAM was needed for overclocking FSB some time ago (i.e. at socket 775 you need at least 1000 MHz DDR2 RAM (most common DDR2 was 800 MHz) to be able to run CPU at 500 MHz FSB - which was quite a common result with Wolfdale Core 2 Duo's)
