Fixing Canada: How do we create a more just immigration system? | The Big Story

[You've probably heard—from politicians, experts or even just friends and family—that "Canada is broken". Everyone can draw their own conclusions about that, but there's no denying some key aspects of the country aren't working well for many of us. And complaining about that is easy, it's fixing it that's the tough part. This week, The Big Story is trying to do that with Fixing Canada—a five-part series featuring deep dives into five issues that touch every Canadian, looking to experts to diagnose the problem—but most importantly, to prescribe the cure.]

For part three of our series, we’re talking about immigration. An issue as politically charged as it is a problem that needs solving. You can be as far left or right as you like and still think our approach to immigration is seriously flawed.

So what we need to do somehow, is find a way to thread the needle. And there are ways to do that, if we want to get serious about it.

How do we make everything better for Canadians? How about not bringing in 1.2 Million people while we build 200, 000 homes.

A more just immigration system? Try not selling out the generations of Canadians that have built this country. Don't give so many handouts to newcomers that they can afford large families while established Canadians rule out a family because they can't afford the tax burden. If "the economy" needs newcomers, let the corporations pay for them, not the workers they want to replace.

How about justice for the people who live here and built this place! how about futures for OUR children?

The first question of any government policy needs to be "does this benefit the Canadian people."
We then need to take a serious look at previous immigration and see how well those people integrated into Canada, got jobs etc.

Firstly, we slow it down to a trickle. We incentivize the traditional Canadian demographic to have larger families. Help them financially and socially just as migrants have been. Give priority to homemade solutions. Stop reliance on importing quick fixes.

How do we take our governments response to global warming seriously if we keep adding carbon creating humans? Urban heat island effect makes big cities 5 degrees warmer than outlying rural areas. The population of Canada in 1900 was 5.5 million. We are warming up our country by adding more humans.

Clearly most commenters here didn’t make it past the first minute. They’re literally crowing the politically divisive points mentioned in THE FIRST MINUTE. 😂😂😂😂
