Retired now but spent 45 years as a Machinist and Tool & Die Maker. At least half of that time was programing and running CNC machines. Brings back memories of many crashes I have seen. Forget what the boss says, I always did a dry run with rapid override and would give W axis plenty of clearance. None of this 0.050 clearance over clamps just to save a second of travel time.

The second that truck cleared underneath he should've IMMEDIATELY started lowering. Even while it first started tipping hit the lever to lower it, don't just sit there waiting for gravity to bring it down its own way.

Machinist here... this video and the comments are solid gold. On a serious note... it is real easy to screw up as a Machinist, especially when you are starting out, if you work at places where the boss can give you any job made from any material with zero seconds notice... eventually you will make a mistake.

Probably cracked the casting. This is why you use longback forklifts (idk the proper name but the frame can be extended backwards to give the counterweight more leverage). We use them exclusively for moving machines because it's hard to determine where the COG is sometimes.

Oh, that moment where the operator didn’t give the cutter enough Z lift and it just broke off... I started seeing Vietnamese flashbacks before my eyes. When I first learned to write programs, due to lack of experience, I broke a bunch of cutters in a similar way and cut off a bunch of clamping pins.

Bro took "crashing the machine" to a whole new level

Was running a 3pc order of some complex stainless shafts with a +-.0005 groove, bringing the groove to size, mid-auto out of the way, measure, sequence restart, machine decided to move in X FIRST, then move in Z. Groover dragged itself straight into the wall of the part

Another classic would be: laser cutter ends cutting a metal sheet (let's say 4 mm) and while the head is going back to home position one of the pieces cut swings upwards and hits it. And that's how make capacitive sensors dealers happy.

We use to take the 5 and 10ton turbo forklifts out and test everthing in the yard to see at what piont we will have failure for refrence.😂.
The fun came when you where testing reversing with wieght on the forks and the turbo kicked in, we were proper stunting.. 😂

Cheat a little bit lifting the machining center off the trailer . Level the forks and place blocks under the mast rails, tilt mast back thus transferring weight rearward .
The center of the drive axle is rear of the mast .

Watched this happen with a 4500 lb transformer and a 4700lb rated fork lift. That's 4700 at the tower lol.

How is nobody mentioning “Two guys should stand back on forklift as counterweight”?? 😂😂😂 Seems like universal tradition around the world 😅

My shop has 24 machines larger than that. 1. There are forklifts with stacks of huge steel plates on the back like a rack for weightlifters. 2. If you dont have that, the put a forklift on either side, lift it up off the bed, pull out the truck and use a spotter to direct both forklifts to lower in sync.

What was even wrong with the old grinder? Seems like it was running fine?

When we move our injection machines, we attach a 3000lb mold to the rear of the forklift, and we have to use both forklifts, driving in tandem. It's definitely a butthole clencher 😅

Something about a tech's mind, especially machinists and ME's, that I really do enjoy.
