It's easier to just tell them that you produce the parts that engineers draw up blueprints of. Gives them a better idea of what exactly you do.

That's what my superiors think a machinist does as well. "Hey, asshat! Make an intricate program by hand, set it up and get it done in the next hour or you're gay!"
