Some NOTES here

1. YOUR MEETING HAS NO GOAL: If your meeting has not agendas then you will waste time, because of that people don’t get chance to prep for it & easy to get off track.
2. YOUR MEETING LOOKS BORING: If all meetings blend together then label the meeting with your goal. Ask yourself what is the goal of the meeting this way meeting stands out. Label your meeting exactly what you hope attendees will get from it.
3. YOUR MEETING SHOULD BE IN EMAIL: Unfortunately most things get discussed in the meeting that could easily be shared in the emails. Double check your email shouldn’t instead be email
4. YOU ARE FORCING PEOPLE INTO DECISION FATIGUE: The more decisions that have to be made in the meeting the more draining and effective they become. So reduce the number of decision in the meeting by making agenda, assigning roles, assign note taker, assign next steps, make one person in charge.
5. YOUR MEETING HAS AN ENERGY VAMPIRE: Energy vampires are demotivating, destructive, distractive individuals. So assign role, step up to speak, don’t be afraid to sidebar them.
6. YOUR MEETING HAS A COLD START: Most people don’t warm up before meeting. Remember to warm up yourself to avoid cold start.
7. NOT SWEATING THE SMALL STUFF: Bring some snacks, write agenda on board, post-it notes, try standing meeting, put everything on the notes of calendar, do early tech check, let everyone speak.

My passion is to share summaries like started doing it on my channel with PDF summaries ✌
Lets avoid these mistakes 🙌

Great talk, key takeaway points : be prepared and let everyone know the format of the meeting and the roles for people and the role boundaries so that everyone in the meeting can be prepared too and then the meeting can run smoothly and usefully. Role boundaries are probably usually learnt earlier on in peoples career but I guess it seems as though it can’t hurt to emphasise them occasionally, especially for those that have missed those boundary lessons. I do think you have gotten a bit on the bandwagon of blame gaming toxic people. Energy Vampires are probably more complex than that and they just need to think about things a bit more. They may not be mixing things up creatively and they may use cliches because that is what gets the energy, also they may be trying a dominant role inappropriately but they don’t realise that context and timing and the groups agreed on positions for each other is everything and that when info is welcome it get rewarded, when it is not it gets derision. Helpfulness is key for good information transference. Toxic people are human too and they deserve an intervention and rehabilitation, not total social rejection All in all, another great talk.

I would love you to do a developing a working system talk, especially a workplace social role one, seeing that your job is in science of people. I would also love a family dynamics system talk, about developing a flexible system of boundaries for interacting and working efficiently with family (eg sharing skill information and time and learning to network by exploring immediate and extended family skill sets to support each other in success. All skills which can eventually be used outside the family.) My preference for a family dynamics talk would be to, on top of elite tactics and strategies to improve each other’s lives, add a section for helping family members who are not coping and helping struggling family without losing ones own sanity. Part of that might be to find which people in the family can rotate the helping schedule and get them back on their feet and find what are the obstacles to them taking the advice they are getting (many people not coping have been given the advise they need but don’t get to work with it.)

Ah yes, meetings... can't live with them or without them. I worked at a place where the boss refused to have group meetings. His attitude was that not everyone needed to be present for everything he rather meet with people in small groups or one on one. The meetings were 10-15 minutes long and very affective. I wish this became the norm because nothing ruins your day like a meeting that has nothing to do with you or your department.
