Divisions of the Brain

This short clip will review the 3 main portions of the human brain. The brain is a major component of the Central Nervous System (CNS) along with the spinal cord. You will learn during this course the brain is a very sensitive organ and operates in an area dependent fashion. In addition, we believe, everything about who and what we are resides within the brain. By its very nature, the brain is a critical structure and vital to our being. When we encounter ill or injured patients, an important sign of brain dysfunction will be a change in the patient’s mental status or behavior. In the patient assessment portion of our class, we will discuss how we assess brain function and mental status. For now, we need the learn the structures and their function, so we can predict dysfunction later in the class.
