Wow!

Super sweet! I wasn't even aware of this automatic creation of date-time calendar! sometimes i just look at my dataset, saw those hierarchies and thought: "damn, i must have wrongly clicked somewhere and made this mess".

It was PBI all this time!

I taught a PowerBI class just yesterday, and I wish I had seen this sooner. I would have informed the students of this issue. I did promote your website (as I always do), so hopefully they will see this video. Thank you!!!!

Thanks Ruth, I was looking for not having Date Hierarchy in my transaction table.

Super like. Thank you for showing it with the help of DAX studio.

Thanks for this great information. When using my own Calendar table in models, should I still build a hierarchy for my date (from year, q, month and day fields in the table) or just use the fields directly without creating a hierarchy?

Thanks a lot for this video, Ruth. Start doing this right now in my further reports.

I know it is an older video but thanks your probably a fun person at work I love the videos... 5:50, yes I did it! I have been using a date table all along and I am like you and I hate all the carets and dropdowns on my date fields.

Excelente recomendación a tener en cuenta a la hora de construir nuestros informes, y no terminemos con un modelo muchisimo mayor al que debieramos. Muchas gracias Ruth!

Lovely! Your style is fantastic. Thanks so much. Tell me, should the date table have dates well into the future or just dates that match entries in fact tables? I'm a newbie, as you can tell by the question!

Hi ruth, have you ever tested the quick measures, without marking the data table ?

If you tick “set as calendar table” it should do that automatically ;)

Hi Ruth, if I disable Auto Time Intelligence I appear to loose the date hierarchy? Is this something which can't be avoided? The main reason I want it is so that my line chart with date on the X axis has the Concatenate Labels option, which makes the presentation of the timeline much more attractive, with the 3 layers of dates. Thanks Mark

Hey Ruth, is there any chance of a DAX FRIDAY video about this Dax function called "SELECTEDMEASURE" ? I've read the documentation but cannont think in a way of using it...

Everyone: Make sure you deselect that function.
Me: NEVER!

I find it better to have multiple 'month' fields to pick from, than just 1. Also, so far, after my 5 GB Power BI file got reviewed, the date tables created by this function was actually relatively small... Why not just make life easy on yourself and keep them in.
