Sitting can wreak havoc on your health, and not just in the form of minor aches and pains. Recent studies show that too much sitting contributes to a host of diseases—from obesity and diabetes to cancer and depression. The typical office worker, who spends most of his or her day at a desk, suffers from more musculoskeletal injuries than those workers who do daily manual labor. It turns out that sitting is as much an occupational risk as is lifting heavy weights on the job. The facts are in: sitting literally shortens your life. Your chair is your enemy, and it is murdering your body.

In his groundbreaking new book, Deskbound, Dr. Kelly Starrett—renowned physical therapist and author of the New York Times and Wall Street Journal bestseller Becoming a Supple Leopard—unveils a detailed battle plan for surviving, and thriving, in our chair-centric society. Deskbound provides creative solutions for reducing the amount of time you spend perched on your backside, as well as strategies for transforming your desk into a dynamic, active workstation that can improve your life.

I’m sure you will get a lot out of this interview as did I. Maybe you’ll even want to watch it standing up!

great interview with a true master of human movement and mobility Even though he does not give specifics about fixing specific problems he shares the general notions of maintaining a strong body. Following his guidelines in his books is challenging, but worth the effort if for no other reason than it is the only way to correct mechanical problems( since you can't carry around a chiropractor in ur pocket, and even if you could they can't explain what they do to orrect mechanical problems. Good interview, Dr. Perlmutter.
Have you thought to do an interview with the neurosurgeon Dr. Russell Blaylock? You and Dr. Russell Blaylock are my go-to Neuro doctors I refer to everyone. I own your books as well as his. His book excitotoxins taste that kills is pretty darn amazing. Tough to read, however, enough for me to understand the dangers of excitotoxins and warn others. Great to see you on Garden of Life's kids probiotic brand. I happily & gladly buy for them for my family. Both kid & adults. I now eat for my Hashimotos hypothyroid & ADHD and feel better. I'm teaching my little ones to read labels and help them understand what those long/can't pronounce names mean.
What we've all missed is education in nutrition. I think when you get diagnosed with something we set on a journey to get & feel better. I'm so happy to see such a push on "cleaner" eating. We need to keep talking about it and not shut up until AMERICA listens. Keep the good fight to all involved. 👍🏻

What do you suggest for an 88 yr old who can't stand up at her standup desk for as long as she wants and goes to the available chair? I do Founder's squats and practice yoga for stretch and strength and do my 150 min a week outside on my recumbent tricycle for aerobic. But the "sitting problem" is one I don't know how to solve. I need help.
