I don't care who you are, when you're out falling trees all day long, especially logging.... something will go cowshit.

Not sure if someone said it but this is a perfect application of the buckin’ billy back it first technique. Start your back cut, sneak your wedge, cut in to avoid interference, pull your saw and drive wedges. Once you have command nip in a face cut. Works awesome for smaller backseat trees. Really appreciate the honest content! 🌳🌲💪😎

German forrester here ...i basically cut dozens of trees a day for living ...i do a bit of arborist stuff sometimes but most of the time i fall timber ...well i f* up from time to time too even after almost 20 years doing it .... Thousands and thousands ...but every few dozen there is a tricky one ...and sometimes one goes south. .... Nobody was hurt nothing damaged so its all good ...we learn from every fu*k up we do a lot more than we learn from a smooth ride.

you could have falled without it sittin back with the forrestry Standard technique her in germany .... Wedge 1/5

Plungecut parellel to holdingwood basically forming tge hinge before cutting the back holdingwood

Then cut half of the back part

Bang a wedge hard

Cut tge rest ob the remanig back wood and than you have tree in full controle and no stuck saw

Love it that you Upload your misatakes too .... Like august hunekie and jakob (guilty of treeson ) love you guys all

i’m sure you know this but you can set your wedge in sideways to the kerf to get more lift without bumping your saw or hinge wood. cut might have been still too shallow to get in there though, shit happens good think you were safe

Not being a dick here, when i feel like shes sittin back hard, especially smaller diameter wood. I always back cut first. Saves a lot of hassle, barber chairs and other shit situations. Im just glad to see guys out here tryin. Not many people wanna be in this line of work anymore let alone cuttin timber everyday.

Never fell against your lean. You have to notch somewhere in the direction the tree is already leaning, or it'll just pinch your bar. It's a common mistake when you're new, but also very dangerous. If you don't have the proper rigging and equipment, do not notch against the lean.

I was working near a main road cutting snags made by a wildfire with 2 other fallers. Things were going great and the stumps were adding up. A tree service drove by and a guy yelled "you're better than the other guys!"
I tried to ignore it but a bit of pride welled up for sure. A few hours later the same scenario as the video happened. I thought no one noticed until I hear the tree service guy drive by again yelling "What happened!?"
😂 stay humble my friends

Gotta love to see even a pro post results that he would have approached differently if given a second chance. Sometimes I see guys put a line into a tree that looks easy to fell without. Probably because they've all had experiences like this, when having a line in place makes all the difference.

I am a Climbing Arborist. There is no substitute for that skill set. This video proves it.

If in the same position again what would you do differently? Could you have done a whole new facecut above the first? I think whats what I would have tried but I dont know if it would work

Happened to me on a super windy day. Even the branch weight on one side couldn’t withstand the wind

VTS kinda knew it would barberchair, as he was standing on the opposite side to where it actually fell. Given the tree was out in the boondok, it was not a high risk fall anyway. Lot's of comments talking about bore cut, perhaps you can upload a vid where you did a bore cut first with a leaner.

Its ok bro it happened to me once with a tree that had heart rot... had to climb a free beside it and rig it and pull it lol.

Just glad there were no lines nearby, always a pucker moment when you got wires and the proverbial poop starts to hit the fan.
