2-MINUTE GUIDE TO ULTRA TURN [U-TURN] - Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled (CTRNF)

Direct to the point. The Ultra Turn technique (U-Turn) can be used by every driving style / engine type be it Turn, Balanced, Acceleration, or Drift. This is also doable using an Analog stick but I tried it myself and it's extremely difficult and inconsistent for me. If you are an Analog-type racer, I suggest just switching immediately to the D-pad if you need to do a U-Turn, then switch back to Analog when you're back on track.

The same buttons can be pressed while in mid-air to steer sharper -- albeit the term for it is Air Brake. Basically press and hold the Brake, Reverse, and Right / Left mid-air. This is most notable when attempting the U-Turn shortcut before the finish line in Hot Air Skyway.

I believe that mastering this technique is the prerequisite for wall hugging and corner cutting. Speed driving style benefits the most from this tech as it has an extremely low turn stat. By turn stat I mean simply steering by pressing the left / right buttons or just power sliding.

I was good at U turns but I always missed something...
Pressing the reverse button 😂
Now I will be unstoppable

For those who still may not understand. Hiting the brakes while doing this will not deplete your boost as throttling is what continues a boost

Reversing is still hitting throttling just in reverse so the boost still keeps going, but it the boost still pushes you foward with its strength.

As you reverse, your boost continues, combined with breaking, turn will create the U-turn. I hope this helps

I remember how I was learning U-turns in like March or something and I couldn't get it at all. When I realized I wasn't pressing the reverse button I realized how dumb I was xD. Then I managed to get it down, and use it for some shortcuts (like the big skips in Hot air Skyway, and in Papu's Pyramid over the ledge). And then when I found out it's even more OP in Nitro-Fueled, I started to basically use U-turns everywhere.
Nice guide btw.

This is really gonna help when doing the Dev time on Turbo Track. I started to find out how to do this on my own tonight, but with this; I'll be able to master it.

For Xbox w/alternate control users:

1. Go to Xbox settings on home screen
2. Find the option to map your controller buttons
3. Map the R1 button to dpad down (this swaps the functions of the two buttons) You can always go back and change this setting back to normal when you're done playing for the day, but it is indeed the most crucial step to the equation.
4. When wanting to Uturn, you must release the acceleration (R2) and quickly hit and hold down R1 (this would have been the down on dpad you would have had to hold down for Uturn which is almost impossible while using analog).
5. While holding R1, also hold brake (x). You must be holding R1 down before adding brakes or you will lose your fire.
6. Now that you are holding R1 and X, spam the L1 (jump) button while using left analog to guide your Uturn.
7. Once finished with the Uturn, release all buttons and resume R2 (acceleration), and drift as soon as possible to maintain fire.

I have done 101% completion of the game, and have gotten to only 9 more Velo times to beat, and just today learned this from watching The Viperian. I can't believe I didn't find this sooner but it has breathed new life into playing.

Thanks for this! I held acceleration while u-turning, so that's why I didn't turn enough for example in Turbo Track...

I have issues with U-Turns, I don't have problems when I do them on Turbo Track for example, when I have to spam the jump button. But, when I want to do it ONCE, just one jump, to take corners more fast with the usf, I very often lose the usf ! -_- without hitting a wall. I believe that I have problems with the brake button, I may still be pressing the button while I was in the floor!
PS : excellent video!

I finally got the hang of it, but only by swapping Down and X (Switch equivalent to Triangle) in the console's button remapping.

And I still missed the Dragon Mines Velo Ghost by less than a second!
