"I don't... think... I'm prideful...?"

Great! If you examine your actions and intentions and you don't detect any obvious pride, that's a wonderful thing. But as each one of us grows deeper in relationship with Jesus, he will reveal ever more nuanced ways that pride can sneak its way into our lives, giving us opportunities to reveal those places to Jesus and letting him perfect us.

Today, Fr. Mike uncovers some of those sneaky areas of our life where pride can burrow itself and cause major problems.

Everyone pray for Bishop Barron, Fr. Schmitz, Matt Fradd, and all the other Catholics on the Internet who are attracting people to the Church. Because they are doing so much to build up God’s kingdom, they are targets for spiritual attack, not to mention the simple fact that they are under a lot of pressure to represent the Church AND everybody wants a piece of them. If you’re reading this, please consider praying to St. Michael and Our Lady to keep them safe and sound. I’m so grateful for their work.

I used to be so obsessed with my appearance. I exercised alot, ate very little, would not be seen without piles of makeup on, wore heels in all weather, even to the doctors, and always had stylish, expensive clothing on, perfect salon hair.
Then I moved out of my rich parent's house.
And I learned.
I now wear joggers and tshirts, and walmart everything. Even their tennis shoes.
Moving out was Gods plan for me to get over my pride, and live humbly.
And I'm greatful. That home was a broken home. I now have peace in my studio apartment. It's quiet, and I have my kitty cat, Skittles. I live within my means, and still have a good amount of food, furniture, and a clean home.
Thanks, God.

I struggle with ambition, especially as a perfectionist. I like to have a sense of control and tend to take matters into my own hands because I think my way is best. I can get very frustrated when things don't go my way, and in the past I never even asked whether my plans were in alignment with God's plan. The areas in my life where I've grown the most have been where God's timing and plans were not my own and I had to truly surrender to what He wanted for me. Even now, it can still be difficult to get out of the driver's seat but I know God's plans are ultimately better than what I have in mind.

Praying the Litany of Humility and meditating on each line is really helpful for facing your pride directly.
With how pride is usually discussed, a person with depression or low self esteem might think pride isn’t an issue for them. But the litany of humility will be a struggle to pray, revealing where your pride lies.

I love the blunders. It lightens thinks up. I need to laugh at times in such a serious world that makes me cry sometimes. Thank you for the inspiration, hope and blunders. Little did you know blunders could be blessings! 🤣

Self pity is another form of pride. Talking about others behind their back is like putting oneself higher than the rest Pride could be seen in ones pure intentions.

Boastfulness
Hypocrisy
Ostentation
Ambition

Of these, I struggle the most with hypocrisy.

This came up just at the right time Fr. Mike, thank you. i heard recently on a video where Bishop Barron spoke about the worst of all sins and many would think it is lust but in fact it's pride and I have to remind myself every day that I have a big issue wlth it and can't beat it on my own, it pollutes all other areas in the life of the person and becomes a gateway for other sins too. No wonder the saints repeated that the greatest virtue is humility, humility and humility.

God bless Fr. Mike and all his listeners. May we forever grow in the virtue of humility. Consecration to Jesus through Mary and praying the Rosary daily does help a lot. Our Lady Help of Christians, Comforter of the afflicted, Refuge of sinners. The Litany of the Blessed Virgin Mary ❤️🕊️🙏

I’m liking the suggestions for the Surrender Novena and the Litany of Humility. Currently I’m praying the St Andrew novena 15x a day for advent. This helps with pride because you’re focusing on Christ. It’s a very nice way to get into mental prayer. Focusing on the humility of Christ born in the cold. It brings me out of myself. Thank you Father

I usually struggle with false humility instead, so I’m always ashamed to share anything good I’ve done like it’s a sin if anyone finds out I’ve succeeded at anything.

If you work for God, you enjoy your work because its pleasing to Him. If you're good at your work, then you habe to understand its all because of God. He gets the credit. Its hard to do.

I’ve always appreciated the disciple Nathaniel. Jesus gave him an awesome compliment: in him there’s no guile. 💙
