If you're not pulling out a pillow and blanket between sets you're doing it wrong 💪

Even for things like supersets, I try to rest 15-30 secs so my breathing can calm down before going to the next set. If you’re failing to reach your target reps due to your cardiovascular system, you’re hindering growth.

Love your channel. Short, direct, no BS, no time wasted.

I’m 75 years old and I use a pulse oximeter to measure my O2 sats and heart rate. Currently on my 5x5 training on compound lifts it will take 3-4 to return to near baseline. I use that and the way I feel to determine when I actually start my next set. I can usually cut this down to 90 seconds to 2 minutes on accessories

Sage advice. I definitely take longer rest periods (4-5 min) on heavy movements like bench press and barbell curls. On lighter, more muscle-specific exercise like flies, hammer curls and lat raises, I’m usually good with @ 2-3 minutes or so of rest. I just go by feel. My body knows on its own when to start the next set. I don’t really have to think about it.

This is why I believe in some cardio. Not intense but some good steady state cardio is great for taking sets further without gasing out

This is why I love this channel as it clearly states that not everything with regards to training can be evidence based.70s bodybuilders didn't had all these scientific evidence backed principals yet, had the most aesthetic physique compared to modern day lifters. They just ate and trained hard.

Glad to hear common sense from someone in the fitness industry.
I rest long enough for my heart rate to come back down and for a sense of confidence that I can get through the next set. At the beginning of the workout, when I'm doing light / warmup sets that's a fairly short rest. Toward the end, or when I'm using heavy weights and going hard for 6-8 reps that may require a fairly long (5-10 minute) rest.

good advice, people in the gym think im lazy for resting 2 minutes inbetween sets, meanwhile I last twice as long as they do with similar weight.

Facts! I've found as you get stronger, you may need a 3-5 minute rest on most sets. Especially when going to failure and beyond 💪

I use the old school way of hand writing my reps into my journal, immediately after the set, I right it down, by the time I put the pen and pad down, I go right into my next set.. This seems to be perfect timing, After 2 hours of non stop writing and working I'm feeling great.
