TED & TEDx Explained

TEDx is an international community that organizes TED-style events anywhere and everywhere -- celebrating locally-driven ideas and elevating them to a global stage. TEDx events are produced independently of TED conferences, each event curates speakers on their own, but based on TED's format and rules.

anyone can share an idea without being a complete expert, or having any credentials. The purpose of giving speeches are to inform or to pursuade. and as an "audience" we have control over what we believe and what we choose not to believe

Am I the only one still feeling sorry for that guy Ted, 0:16? :P

I've learned that TED talks share ideas for free, full stop. TEDx talks share ideas for free but with the presenter profiting/benefiting from their idea if it's embraced. I always ask myself "is this person trying to sell me something?" when going into TEDx talks, and keep that in mind while I listen.

This is cool and all, but why hasn’t Ted given us a talk yet?

The difference between TED and TEDx is the difference between giving a speech to the nation vs giving a speech to your highschool

Basically the difference is that Ted speakers are industry experts who know what they are talking about and whose opinion and information you can value. In stark contrast, TedX talks are seemingly given by anyone who wants to give a talk and are not quality controlled or necessarily given by people who are even respected in their own field, let alone experts. Thus, while you can generally place a large degree of faith in what the Ted speakers have to say, you should take TedX speakers with large grain of salt and look into what they are saying before making up your own mind.

The idea that TedX talks are always relevant to the local community has been, in my experience of about 10 of them, simply not true. They are often given by folks who want to push their own image, opinion, and/or agenda, for selfish motives. While all TedX speakers are not like this, you would be well advised to judge their talks critically and decide for yourself.

Excellent, simple and to the point... One platform is TED one organization another is TEDx independent organizers - but all must be approved by TED.

You should start your own TEDx in your community and talk about why avoiding spelling mistakes or translation errors on YouTube videos could save thousands of lives!

funny how a lot of comments are bashing this. look, it isn't mandatory to watch, and if you get nothing from it, then don't go out of your way to watch this. it's that simple.

I am in the Ted club of my school and they are going to give out the registration form of Ted. I want a Ted talk very badly. Although I am only in class 9th but I think being a student doesn't stop you from getting a Ted talk. People should listen to what we teenagers think as well
