▬ Information ▬
House of the Dragon is an American fantasy drama television series created by George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal for HBO. It is a prequel to the television series Game of Thrones and is based on Martin's 2018 novel Fire & Blood. Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the beginning of the end of House Targaryen, the events leading up to the Targaryen civil war, known as the "Dance of the Dragons", and the war itself. The main contenders are Houses Targaryen, Hightower, Stark, Baratheon, Arryn and Velaryon.

Game of Thrones is an American fantasy drama television series created for HBO by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss. Based on the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin. The series is set on the fictional continents of Westeros and Essos, and interweaves several plot lines with a large ensemble cast. The first narrative arc follows a civil conflict among several noble houses for the Iron Throne of the Seven Kingdoms; the second covers the attempts to reclaim the throne by the exiled last scion of the realm's deposed ruling dynasty; the third chronicles the rising threat of the impending winter, the legendary creatures and fierce peoples of the North.

“GRRM has WOW regrets.”

If only I could possibly relate to what that felt like…

Hbo are so stupid for not letting creators use a reasonable amount of their stuff. Its free PR

If he doesn’t finish the books his legacy is greatly diminished and I’m always gonna think his ending was just as bad as the show or worse. Fair or not

Maybe HBO should spend less on claiming YouTube channels and more on finishing a 10 episode season 😀

Perhaps you should try adding more arrows to the thumbnails

If George retires, Preston's fan fiction becomes cannon.

I think it would be interesting if, instead of complete novels, George continued the story as a series of serialized novellas focusing on a specific POV or setting. Yes, it would be a more extreme strategy than the AFfC/ADwD split, but It could force GRRM to focus on one specific arc at a time and lock him into decisions so he'd be less compelled to rewrite chapters.

The reason why episode 8 felt like an episode 8 of a 10 episode season, was because it was meant as an episode 8 of a 10 episode season. Warner wanted HBO to cut, cancel and/or scale back their projects, HBO decided that the last two episodes original meant for this season, not happen, and this during a writers strike.

5:03 he’s never finishing the series, that’s already a given, winds of winter is the only last tangible thing that he can do, unless, God willing, he lives and keeps writing till he’s a 100 albeit at a much slower pace then his already depleting one, ASOIAF will never be finished, at least by its original author. But I’ve come to terms with that, if he at least finishes a WoW I’ll be happy.🤔

I dont understand how networks like HBO and Disney cant handle criticism. All it does is draw more attention to their unethical behavior.
Sucks but glad you're back!!

I agree 100% you have to finish if you want to be on Mt Rushmore. Some folks want clicks and say in true things about the show. We can be critical with out being untruthful.

Some changes like giving Viserys more characterisation in S1 were for the better, but overall showrunners shouldn't divert from the source material much. Maybe if they're successful fantasy writers beforehand they can tweak stuff, but that's really it. Have some humility.
D&D added some cool original scenes in early GoT but when they were responsible for a greater part of the plot it all fell apart. Worth learning from.

I think the whole thing is, he doesn't want to finish asoiaf cuz then it will be over. That's why he is focusing so much on untold stories before the original books. And don't get me wrong, all the alternate perspectives, like dunk and egg and fire and blood books were amazing. But he needs to finish the original story before focusing on interesting prequels.
Finish the original books then delve deeper into the world before it. Just like the lord of the rings and then the hobbit series

At least we know his eyes and ears still work then.

Honestly he should do one of two things: 1.) Tell HBO he wants off the TV side - he is no longer affiliated with the TV adaptions. This would work because he could detach from any criticism and focus on writing which would be a positive for book fans

or

2.) Stop letting screen writers butcher your books. Hire a couple screenwriters that you trust and respect and sit your self down and write a couple seasons of television bc everyone knows you aren’t writing TWOW or ADOS anytime soon.

Pick one and make it really great. It seems obvious to anyone paying attention that trying to make both at the same time and keeping the quality high has been a challenge and has not been the consistent success like I am sure he would want.

Would anyone be upset if he made a blog post tomorrow that said, “guys I’m done working with HBO on their adaptations bc I am going to focus on finishing TWOW before the end of 2025”?

Would you rather he focus on finishing TWOW at the expense of the TV shows? Or focus on the TV shows and no chance at TWOW for 5+ years? Because right now it seems like we are getting the worst of both worlds.

I'd like to think that George remembers what it's like to work within the limitations of tv production and retains some empathy for the HotD showrunners. His response to Season 2 is going to be classy and carefully-phrased, even if he has objections.

Alicent's character assassination 🤮

Of course the entire season wasn't bad. However, with the exception of Rhaenyra meeting with Alicent in King's Landing, the first half was pretty good. The dragon seed episode was decent too. But what was bad, was REALLY bad. I don't fault people for feeling that the last episode tainted the season, because it did. No matter how good of a performance you have in gymnastics, you can ruin the whole thing by not sticking the landing. Not only did they not stick the landing, they face planted.

I honestly liked most of season 2, but agree it should've been better. If only they were actually given the last 2 episodes of the season.

People forget that it took Tolkien 19 years to write _The Lord of the Rings, _ and depending how you count, 43 or 53 years to fail to make a publishable version of _The Silmarillion._

He needs to make sure his legacy stays in his own hands and stop pimping it out to HBO. Dunk and egg is another unfinished story that is HIGHLY likely to be surpassed by its show counterpart. Just like GOT. George himself said that studios and writers cant do the stories better than their creators so why does he keep refusing to finish his story but is more than happy to give every little piece of it to those same studios and writers? He’s 0 for 2 in the adaptation department now (in most fans minds) and he’s helping them make like 10 more spin offs. All while ignoring his actual book, that he, and only he has full control over.

I love that he visited Tolkiens grave and it might just be Tolkien and his legend that motivates George to finish Asoiaf. I hope George does decide to drop the spin offs and the red carpet and all of that bs and just go back to what he loved, telling stories. If he doesn’t enjoy it anymore then I hope he can put the pen down and find peace from that, but he HAS to tell us if that’s the choice he makes.
