I had number 1. It was horrible! Started in May 2018. I thought my life was over. Little by little, I habituated. Today, I barely hear it. I no longer have any distress from it. You can get better.

I got tinnitus in April 2018. One night when I was going to bed I heard some weird ringing noise in my right ear. It was changing in tones; sometimes lower sometimes higher. I didn’t think to much about so I went to bed thinking that it would be gone the next morning. Woke up the next morning and it was still there. I went to work trying not to think about it. Then it went on for days, weeks and months and still it was ringing in my right ear. I lost my appetite and my mental health went down south. Sometimes I felt like I wanted to die. But I kept on fighting. Went to work everyday, hung out with my friends and talked with my parents everyday so that I would feel better. I thought to myself: There must be a cause to my tinnitus. Then it hit me. I had for a few months fallen asleep on the couch in a weird position so that the right side of my neck would be strained. I could feel a huge difference between the right side of my neck and the left. So, I decided to go to the gym a few days a week so that my neck would be relaxed. Also, not fall asleep on the couch 😂 A few months later the tinnitus would slowly get less noticeable and now few years later it’s completely gone. So that’s my story of how I got tinnitus. I hope that everyone of you who battles with tinnitus beats it; one way or another ❤

That's nuts, I didn't expect to hear a spot-on representation of the sound I hear all the time! Electrical Noise sounds almost identical to what I hear all the time. Thanks for sharing :)

I explain it to my wife as the sound you hear when you put a sea shell to you ear and then add a faint high tone ring in the distant background.
I didn't know there was a diagnosis or medical term for it until recently. I now understand why I've always needed a noise machine and fan running in the background to sleep...it all makes sense now.

I first noticed it in my 20’s when I’d be in a totally silent room. Funny thing is, I thought it was just normal and that the hissing was “my hearing cleaning itself out” and therefore healthy, therapeutic. This mindset helps me embrace it. I like putting in earplugs, or sitting in the silent interior of my car just listening to it and observing it. Who knows, maybe it’s just an indication of the hearing organs getting a rest because of the absence of having to constantly process ambient noise?

I’m 72 and have had this very quite wave sound for years and yes only when it’s quiet do I hear it. I compare the sound to like when you were a kid and held a shell to your ear to hear the ocean. The sound was so quiet that you had to concentrate to hear a very soft wave sound. Until about 5 years ago, I thought that it was completely normal to hear that sound. It doesn’t bother me, but I think I will mention it at an appointment I have with the ENT in a couple weeks.

I have a combination of a few of those at different times. Thank you for posting. Anyone who doesn’t experience this firsthand will never understand what it’s like … and I hope they never ever do.

Mine is the first example. A Houston Specialist ENT told me there was nothing we could do. You have given me some hope. Thank you

Mine has been a lifelong battle, but undiagnosed. Sort of a combination of the static and white noise effect played, but deeper and very intense. It happens mostly in loud environments but can also become overwhelming simply when a person speaks loudly.

Mine is a mix of: Ringing, crickets & hiss. And sometimes I hear random high pitched tapping sounds, like you would hear underwater when banging small rocks or stones together. I learned to live with it. Sitting around thinking about it is the worst you can do for it. Stressful situations and/or being alone can intensify the awareness and level of T. Masking sounds don't work for me. Just a "good" attitude. And knowing there's always someone worse off than I. God Bless you all.

The first sound is what I experience since 2004. Just recently I have started hearing some heartbeat under the high pitch. That’s been great😩

The first ringing sounds, it used to fade when I relaxed but now it's constant. I've been off work for 4 months from anxiety and I think it became worse as I became more anxious. I'm getting better at ignoring it and doing a variety of nerve releasing exercises around my head and neck. Fingers crossed it'll improve as I manage my anxiety better 🤞

I've had Tinnitus all my life. 24/7, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. It never stops. As a teen, albeit completely annoying, I thought everyone had it until it came up in conversation and stunned my mother. That's when I learned that's not normal.
But I was also experiencing vertigo ... which I didn't know there was a name for it ... but noone ever knew what it was.
The tinnitus always sounded like a mix of cicadas and white noise or waterfalls.
As an adult, I'd say starting in my late 20's to early 30's other sounds started coming in. Sounds like a rumbling train along with the cicadas and other stuff and also the train horn/bell thing for lack of the actual word, lol. Then, first starting in my left ear, I began having really random moments where the entire orchestra in there shifted gears, stop completely and was replaced by one single shrill high pitched tone exactly like number 1. Only in my left ear at yhe time and lasted for maybe 30 secs to a minute ... very loud initially and then fading over those second or minute.
Also, that was all I could hear in that ear until the normal tinnitus returned. Now, within the past 8 years or so, it happens randomly in either ear ... not both at the same time though. I have been diagnosed with menieres since about 2010. Vestibular testing showed declining Vestibular function in the left ear. I was once treated for bpv but that never worked. I do get dizzy if my head is below my shoulders, or if I am standing and look directly up to the sky/ceiling. I get what I call occasional head buzz's where it feels like a bumble bee went through my head making my head and vision buzz. That's kinda hard to explain ... Dr's usually look at me with a blank stare when I try to. The tinnitus though .... at this point, when I hear a sound I don't recognize, I will think before I speak to determine if it is really a sound or just another tinnitus thing. Otherwise I will look like a nut job by reacting to it. Well, my left ear just reminded me not to forget about the beeping morse code.

Ringing on my left ear and buzzing on my right ear. The buzzing just started few days ago. Both are not constant and doesn't last long. Thank you for letting me recognize this noises in my ear.

Number 1 for sure! It is exactly the tone I hear because when it started, it matched what I hear so well, I didn't know it had started! Freaky!!!
