In this video, we dive into a heated debate between the late Christopher Hitchens and renowned Oxford mathematician John Lennox on whether religion, particularly Christianity, is the root cause of wars and conflicts. Hitchens argues that religion has fueled many of the world's most significant conflicts, advocating for secularism as a solution. Lennox counters this by highlighting the unique aspects of Christianity that promote peace and unity. Join us as we unpack these compelling arguments and explore the true impact of religion on society. Don't forget to like, subscribe, and hit the notification bell for more thought-provoking content!

The first time I heard Hitchens I knew that he was very well aware of positive examples of religion in practise, but he was too intellectually dishonest to admit it. What I saw was a man disguising his hatred and ignorance in the form of academia and rationality.

Subtract out human nature, culture, history, politics, land, greed, the desire for power, opportunism, fear, greed, and it becomes clear that religion is to blame for all evils--basically Hitchens argument. (He's got a great accent though, doesn't he?)

Belfast isn't the capital of a province plus what he says about the war here being religious is nonsense. It was/is over cultural identity and nationality.

The annoying AI voice at the end nailed it. Women have been the cause of many wars as well, either directly or indirectly, does that make them unnecessary or unneeded? I hope not because I’m keeping my wife. Richard Dawkins asks why couldn’t God just forgive us without becoming human and dying a torturous death. A good question imo, however while a complex topic in general, I think simplicity is best. You don’t pay for a highly coveted beautiful work of art with pebbles or seashells, even though the vendor very well could just accept it, you need currency of great value usually in the form of the sellers home country’s national currency.

Jesus paid the ultimate price because he knew we never could. His life was worth more than all of humanity combined and the wages of sin are death. The cost of our salvation was simply to high to pay and staying with the example Jesus decided to pay for all of history’s greatest works of art with the highest form of currency to ever exist, his blood washed away all of our debt.

Our problem is we try to come at it from a human perspective, which is sort of like am adult coming at life problems from a toddler’s perspective, it just doesn’t work and cannot truly be done.

Hitchens hyperbolic talks sounds reasonable to the atheist, but no intellectual falls for the. "Half a chromosome away from the chimpanzee." His followes may believe his simplification, but as usual he's simply being misleading, like most of his late debates. Rest easy regardless. However, chipms actually have 48 chromosomes to our 46, and while we have a lot of genetic overlap, the overall genetic and phenotypic divergence is significant. Not to mention the chromosomal copulation issue.

I dont how mr lennox knows god 21:36 d exists as a fact. The best i can say i dont know if there is an intelligent creator and an intelligent creator that cares whether someone sins or not. i suspect that any religious speaker could claim there religion is correct.

It is easy to talk about people fighting each other for their opinion in a religion.
Those are not the right arguments, he should have come up with arguments against religion itself, because people fly at each other's throats everywhere, that is nothing new, then of course there are countless arguments against religion. The sun did not revolve around the earth but the other way around, but because of that you were locked up and worse.
That is a clear example that has nothing to do with religion.
Also the enormous wealth of the Vatican is not in proportion to the man on whom the Christian faith is based, he rode into Jerusalem on a donkey in an old cloak and cared nothing for possessions.
The incorrect examples are endless.
Religions are often the cause of differences of opinion, but under non-religious regimes also an enormous number of people were killed for differences of opinion, if not most. (think of the NAZI regime of Hitler and also of Stalin). Often those in power are the cause of discord and war, as is also very clear today, Hitchens could have emphasized that, but he did not, he emphasized religion.
The only "man made" is discord between people and that is endless.
Too bad Hitchins spoke in a mocking tone, that way you only get thoughtless laughs on your side, completely empty of content.

Christopher Hitchens "I'll answer your question in yes or no" then proceeds to go on a long rant of people not following religion as a way of saying religion is bad. This proves Hitchens is a liar and an idiot. Does he also claim math is bad because people do math wrong?

Title of the video is wrong. Should be "Christopher Hitchens" not "Richard Dawkins".

That said, it always amazes me when guys like Hitchens get upset when people act like people (and furthermore, leaves out all the atheist atrocities like Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and Pol Pot.... and no Hitler was NOT a Christian... he was a heathen thru and thru who just happened to have a Roman Catholic upbringing).

If there is no God/god/the gods, then we're all just stardust and Indian Puke as my Philosophy Teacher said, so why is any of the violence, slaughter, etc wrong? Why not live for today and forget tomorrow? If we only get one spin around this thing called life and then poof out of existence, it seems the smart thing to do is do all you can to enjoy life today and forget about the rest. There's certainly no duty to help others at your own expense. Selfish ambition would seem the "moral" absolute. The strongest shall survive. Law of the jungle. Just follow your DNA programming and do whatever you can get away with.

\(^^)/ Consciousness is the particle and wave double slit experiment. The cones and rods of your eyes preserve the particle and wave duality so your vision don't look like a flat screen television. It's supposed to be a violation of physics but it is the only exception in the whole universe.

Oh? The Christian god offers “unconditional acceptance?”

So gay people don’t have to change anything about themselves to gain acceptance from god? You don’t have to stop “sinning” for acceptance? You don’t have to pray? Or worship? Or be obedient?

Those are CONDITIONS my dude. Your god is as “unconditional” as it is real.

Sorry I disagree John is a very plain but good humoured apologist. It’s the same tired arguments.. I want it to be true it feels nicer.. we can’t explain this therefore God.. but going from that to a god this that listen to prayers an does selective miracles and sacrifices himself to for something he set up.. that kind of takes the price.. and injects immense suffering of non and human animals so that we can “grow” .. sry not buying ot
