Remember that all members of an alien race should speak the same language, just like how everyone on Earth speaks Human.

The most important thing for alien civilisations is that all member of a species share the same culture and the same values.

Oh my god, thats the one thing that made me so mad at Alien: Covnant. Just because you can breath the air doesnt mean you should take your helmets off, BACTERIA STILL EXISTS. BACTERIA YOU HAVE NO IMMUNITY TOO.

Just make aliens people but with a tail or something. Maybe unnatural color tones but other than that the exact same thing as Humans. Anime taught me that.

Marvel aliens are just humans with fancy skin color.

How to make an alien:
-Take a human.
-Change their skin color into one humans don't have
-Give them a unique facial feature (antenna, tentacles for hair, no nose/pupils)
-Done

You know what, it's getting old.

"their entire culture is a warrior race!"
"the whole planet?"
"yup, and their names are Skolas, Fikrul, Variks, Karkis"
"dude just like saying humans are named after Bob, Blobe, Lobob, Bobius"

About the apex predator thing, I recently watched the move The Grey, where a pack of wolves aggressively stalk a group of stranded humans. Everything you said about super persistent predators applies to those wolves, but at the end its revealed that the reason they were hunting down the humans is because the humans were getting closer and closer to their den. I thought that was really interesting to see the actual reason why an apex predator would expend so much energy and resources to scare off humans who thought that they were being preyed on because they were defenseless.

The only reasons an alien would attack your protagonist:

1. Hostile
Imagine the Wither (from minecraft). It hones in and kills anything near itself. If an alien was like this, it would probably try to kill the protagonist if it was close, but would probably abandon the chase for a slower and bigger meal.

2. Starving
If an organism was starving, they would be desperate for any sort of nutrition (even the protagonist). The main character or other characters would be seen as viable prey to this alien.

3. Territorial
Normally, unless it was hostile aliens like this wouldn't go for small things like the protagonist. If they didn't heed the warnings though, then this alien would be free to chase them out of its territory.

Hope I cleared stuff up.

The whole helmet-less thing is actually a big problem with emotion-heavy stories.

In the spiderman comics, his suits eyes and face change to fit his attitude, but it wouldn't make sense to do this in real life, so in the older movies they'd just have him lose his mask during key plot points. They remedied this with Tom Holland's movies by having his suit actually have the technology to change how it's face looks to fit the scene.

I want to write a novel about a romance between a Czech cosmonaut and a giant hermaphroditic blind alien slug.

2:22 While this is true, there is one exception to the "hyper-aggressive carnivore" rule, you can make a more passive carnivore but only in the context that it is a "space dog", it will be your protagonists most loyal companion just like boring terrestrial dogs except they're also bulletproof and spit venom at anyone that may talk smack against your mary su-I mean super badass awesome protagonist, bonus points if the protagonist can also ride the aforementioned space dog into battle

“Isn’t Mother Nature grand?”
I’m pretty sure Mother Nature smiled and waved as she snuffed out hundreds of billions or even trillions of lives during every mass extinction.

Is it wrong that a series specifically meant to give bad advice, when followed as a “What not to do” list, has been more helpful than actual writing advice videos?

Star trek does have a valid excuse, makeup and puppetry is expensive. Real world budget limits makes humanoids cost effective.

I'm gonna write a story about a half-elf, half-human, half-human princess who also is the chosen one and has to stop the evil Nazi vampires from enslaving all of human kind while also try to decide between a hot vampire or hot werewolf.

When it comes to TV and movies, they've mostly been limited by the fact that the actors are all human.
