You COULD make your story like Princess Mononoke where the antagonist is only doing what she does for the good of her people. You could also highlight the good your antagonist is doing in his/her community so that just removing him/her from power isn't a simple fix and would in fact be a serious loss to the community in spite of the natural destruction. OR you can make the antagonist NOTHING like Lady Eboshi from Princess Mononoke and just make him/her a one dimensional CEO...that works too...>.>

What I really liked about the original lorax cartoon (not the new movie) was that they addressed that the oneceler created jobs and that if he didn't do what he did, someone else would. Since, as you mentioned, that kind of nuance is sorely lacking in a lot of environmental stories (including the new adaptation of the lorax). I really wish this is something writers would realize more often

I would like to point to Sonic CD, in which whereas the Bad Futures show the planet completely roboticized and destroyed, the Good Futures show nature and technology coexisting in harmony. That’s a good, subtle way of sending an environmental message that is more nuanced than “NATURE GOOD TECHNOLOGY BAD”.

That was the biggest problem I had with Captain Planet, they never established a reason for the 'Eco-villains' to be trashing the environment. If it was just about greed it makes no sense, what the Captain Planet bad guys were doing would actually cost them a lot more money than they would make.
