The fact that bootstrap was free and then still put his life on the line really shows how much he loved his son

The foreshadowing of "your fate is to be married to this ship" though....whole scene should have made the movie

Ah shit, they cut the best line out of the movie. "Ya can't beat the devil twice, son." "Then why are you walking away?"

This entire sequence should have been in the final film

"You can't best the Devil twice son, "
"Then why are you walking away?"

This was so much better than the theatrical cut. Unlike what the directors said, I don't believe this made Jones look in any way incompetent, because this isn't just a game of competence. It's a game of luck. You can tell that he's lost this game before, and his humanity shone through when he simply congratulated Will upon his win, adding more depth to his character. The stakes also become far greater when you understand the game and realize how slim the chances of winning it twice against a man who has essentially nothing to lose in it are. So Will challenging Jones again would've been incredibly tense seeing it for the first time, and Bootstrap risking his newly won freedom to protect his son hits far harder than it did when he was already set for decades of service.

Everything about this cut scene made it better. Sometimes Hollywood really has no clue what its doing.

Hearing the organ stop playing was menacing 💀

The way Jones says "Then it wouldn't be fate, would it?" sounds like as if he's heard people say that a million times.

Anyone else notice at 4:57 when Davy Jones asks Will, "How do you know of the key?", his voice changes to it's human sound...?

This scene draws so many beautiful principles of life in one shot. How all of life can be ruined in an instant. How father loves son and son loves father. How men guard their emotions. How people are betting on their lives like its a game. How important it is to take risks and knowing when not to. How easy it is to become part of something you never wished to. How love can push you to do crazy things. How deceptive yet honest people can be. Fairness. How cruel life is. What really matters in life is the ones we love.

The fact that the music isn’t ambiance for the viewers but is *ACTUALLY* Jones playing his organ is such an amazing detail

As someone who has played a lot of Liar's Dice, it's really interesting to analyze just how precise the writing of the game is and how it reflects the characters.

Turn 1: Bootstrap makes an unassuming opening bid.

Turn 2: Jones makes a safe but deceptive bid to gauge his opponent.

Turn 3: Will, the one with the most at stake, makes a cautious bid that tells his hand.

Turn 4: Bootstrap makes a bold bid in an attempt to force Jones into a corner.

Turn 5: Jones reveals his advantage and uses Will's previous bid against him.

Turn 6: Knowing he has lost, Will refuses to surrender and makes a hail Mary bid.

Turn 7: Bootstrap makes a desperate bid to save his son.

Turn 8: Jones confirms what everyone knows and calls Bootstrap a liar.

"What was it you said about that which is dearest to a mans heart" Shows a drawing of the literal key to Jones heart. They missed out big taking out this extended version

I just want to point out 1 thing: Bootstrap throwing his own dice in AND taking control of the turn order with “your bid captain, ” meant that no matter what, Will wouldn’t lose. In this game, you can only call someone a liar on your turn, which means you can only call the player immediately before you a liar. Even though Jones knows Will is lying with his 8 fives, just through deductive reasoning, he can’t call Will a liar cause it’s not Jones’ turn. And we all know Bootstrap would never make Will lose. So before the first bid, Will’s already won.

I love how that guy behind Will is just enjoying the game while casually scratching his pet Eel's chin at 3:15. And how when it goes to take a nap but wakes up at 3:29 and is like "Ah shit! What I miss guys?"

That sound of "Fuck off" Jones makes at Bootstrap at 4:21 is just so special to me.

Fun Fact:
The deleted sequence of "Liar's Dice" where Will won the first match against Davy Jones is in the Junior Novelization of the film.

I just got the joke when he said “the very next time we make port” He’s telling Will he can go ashore the next time He’s able to step on land in the next 10 years 😭

Watching Dead Man's Chest again make me realize that this scene should have been included. The whole original scene just felt so short now
