Dietary Fibre: The Most Important Nutrient? Best Fiber Foods?

Dietary fibre refers to the indigestible fibrous materials in our diets.

Role of Dietary Fibre in our Diets

Dietary fibre refers to the indigestible fibrous materials in our diets. A good example of this is the cellulose that is present in plants. These fibrous materials are important because it provides bulk to the intestinal contents and helps peristalsis.

Peristalsis is a series of wavelike, muscular movements of the walls of the digestive tract. Such movements enable food to be mixed with the digestive juices and at the same time
move along the digestive canal. This seems like a smooth process, so you may wonder how
constipation occurs?

Constipation can occur if proper peristaltic movements do not occur, the undigested matter in
the large intestine cannot be moved along fast enough and too much water will be absorbed.
As a result the faeces becomes dry and hard and their removal through excretion becomes
difficult.

This condition is called constipation. This can be prevented by taking enough fibre
and consuming sufficient water. Fresh fruits and vegetables, bran, cereals, whole wheat
flatbread and breads are good sources of fibres.

Dietary fiber is your key to beating food cravings. It balances blood sugar, keeping you full longer and reducing the urge to snack. Fiber nourishes your body and gives you control over your appetite, helping you stay focused on what matters.

I went my entire life not knowing this extremely important information. Public schools really suck.

Question: >>> Do we digest/transform fibers into sugars?
- I understood that fibers are actually also considered carbs.
- But we don't digest fibers, right!?
So if we want to help someone to go low carb, to lower blood-sugar and insuline...
Could we use lower carb (=higher fibers) bread???
(Since my old stubborn mother doesn't want to stop eating bread...)

Fiber also causes diverticulitis. IBS, etc. It might be useful if you eat carbs. If you eat a carnivore diet, fat is what controls stool consistency. I haven't had any fiber for 10 months and my poo is just fine and doesn't have an unpleasant odor anymore. Poop is just waste products your body can't use so it is getting rid of it. I only poop 2 or 3 times a week and it is very little. On carnivore, my body absorbs the vast majority of anything I eat. But, you do you, boo.

Complete nonsense! Like trying to fix a traffic jam by adding more cars. Remove fiber all together and add fat instead.
