In the year twenty thirteen, an enigmatic body of warm water emerged off the coast of Alaska. This peculiar marine heat was incredibly persistent and unusual, initially challenging our ability to explain its origins. The warm water pool remained in the sub-Arctic Bering Sea and Gulf of Alaska throughout the winter season, and subsequently expanded rapidly southward along the Pacific Coast. This occurrence of the warm water pool, dubbed the blob, attracted significant attention and curiosity from scientists and researchers alike.

In very warm water. Hard to believe one could also occur in near-freezing waters. If it had, there would be pictures of that instead of a photoshopped whirlpool, yeah? Anyway, the word "whirlpool" was never used.
