Rice, Beans and deydrated Potatoes. In the olden days on the Oregon Trail, thats all us Christians had. MAYBE some salt pork, Maybe some potatoes.. Im not Mormon now but in a sense I am. I was raised in Mesa Arizona and still have this conservative sense. I was baptized in a Mormon Church ( Ward) I have this virtue ingrained. I not in Mormon now..just Christian, but I am flat out saying, ITS TIME TO PREP, STOCK YOUR FOODS.

I had vacuum sealed bags of different rice last year. Then my daughter come over, I hadn't put the rice away so it was still on the table. My daughter picked a bag up to look at it and we both said at the same time, this would make a great weapon. She went home and started vacuum sealing her rice. She is the only one of my kids that took my advice to start prepping.

Seal the bags down the middle, fill one side w/rice the other w/ beans, . Care package.

I bought a vacuum sealer at a garage sale real cheap. It wouldn't hold the seal beacuse the rubber seal on the lid was to dry. I rubbed olive oil on the seal. BAM, works like a champ.

Suggestion: When you open a sealed bag, cut it just under the seal line. Pour our what's in there and wash and dry the bag. Use it again for a smaller portion of food needing to be saved. Just FYI.

Interesting on freezing and baking the beans. I'm 69 years old and I've never found a bug in my beans!! I always sort them to get any little rocks or pebbles out, but I've never ever found a bug or larvae!!!

I just canned 25 qts of pinto beans as well as have a lot stored. Beans take a long time to cook so I figured grid down situation I can heat and eat.

On your rice and beans you can cut out the freezing, heating, and oxygen observers by putting Bay Leaves in your food saver. Jar, or 5 gallon bucket. I do this. I opened a 5 gallon bucket this summer that was 15 years old and there was not a sign of bugs. I left the bucket outside so it did freeze a number of times. Bay Leaves will kill insects, eggs, and pupae. A real labor saver. I use food saver bags for gifting. 2 cups per bag. You do a great job in all your videos!

another thing I do when vacuuming my bags of beans or rice, I put something to elevate the bag so it vacuums the bag of rice more flat for storing the bags, or just hold up and shake out flat once I’ve closed the heat bar on vacuum machine. I love to file fold the bags upright to optimize my storage in storage crates … JillyinSD

I've seen people use paper lunch bags filled with 1-4 cups of flour, rice, beans. They label the bag then put the paper bag(s) into a foodsaver bag and vacuum seal. It helps protect against punctures

I just watched a video from October 1, a street preacher in Gatlinburg Tennessee had the police called on him for being too loud. People yelling back at him, hail satan. Brought me to tears. Pray, pray.

A little trick I do. Put your canning funnel in the top of the bag. Hold the neck of the funnel and the bag with one hand. Makes getting your items into the bag much easier.

I stored a bunch of pasta in a 5 gallon food grade bucket and must have put in too many oxygen absorbers, because the next day it was sucked in around the middle like it had an hourglass figure.

I've been doing regular instant potatoes in sealing bags, also cake mixes, jello, been jar sealing crackers, candy and cereal

I've had the rice perforate the plastic when vacuumed too much. More recently, I've put the rice in lunch bags then into the vacuum bag.

A little trick- whenever you try to fill a plastic bag (ziplock or food saver) fold the top over an inch or so and it will stay open better so it’s easier to fill.
