Long Term Food Storage - Rice in Mylar Bags and Buckets
If sealed and stored properly, they will last 30 years. Once opened, approximately 2 years. Depending on personal preference, 25-60lbs of rice should be stored per person. Only white rice, brown rice has natural oils which significantly reduce shelf-stable storage.

Like I said, based on experience you're one of the few Homesteaders I trust.

Went to our Krogers and I am happy to say I am a proud person buying 20 lbs rice for $9.99.
Shelves are low on large bags of noodles. Bought two. And the bargain for me was a bag of boneless thighs 5 lbs for $6.99.

I 100% agree about the rubber mallet. My weapon of choice is my 56oz snap on dead blow mallet! My son loves sealing our buckets with that beast 🤣 🤣 🤣

Living in SC, we got Pantry Moths in Grits. We have been fighting these creatures for months. Now I am going to move items into storage bags. My Mama is 96 yrs old and I am 72 yrs. I don't need 30 yrs but I need to have enough for this year to start.

If you have multiple buckets of the same product, just use gamma seal on one bucket and then refill bucket.

I put my quart bags in a gallon pitcher to hold them upright, I got tired of holding them upright while I filled them, lol

There is a tab on the rim of the top that you pull off with pliers when you remove the top for the first time. This makes it easier to put on and take off the top.

I started storing rice in 1/2 gallon jars in 2017. I've barely touched it so now I'm only storing in the 5gal buckets. Instead of 5 gal mylar I bought 1 gal mylar which will work best for my use AND make it easier to share with family, friends, etc

“Go big or go home!” Love it! Will you consider doing a video where you share about storing food as preparation for retirement? You mention this concept frequently in your videos, I’d love to hear more on your philosophy. Thanks! 🙂

If you have a Tractor Supply store near you they also carry 5 gallon food grade buckets and lids.

If you put a half sheet cake pan under (or even a roasting size pan) under your bags as you fill them, you can just pour the spillage into the last bag before sealing

I love your channel, your videos are just down to earth and never gimmicky like some channels. I'm also diabetic and since you are also it helps me feel better about the foods I prep. Even for diabetics the calories HAVE to be there. Thanks for your channel! I've been prepping for 30 years now but the recent diabetes has thrown me for a loop. Thank you!!🤗

Warm those lids in hot water. I hear they slide right on.

Thank you! I’ve been putting wheat berries and rice up in Mylar bags and buckets for the last two days. I used a 5 gallon Mylar bag. I wish I had used the quart bags. I have more wheat berries and black beans to put away so I’ll do it in quart bags

Thanks for sharing. I did buy a 20 pound bag of rice abd was confused about how to use the Mylar bags, vacuuming sealing, etc. you made it look easy and doable. I appreciate you making the videos to help those of us just starting to do long term food storage.

I came to your channel last year to learn how to do this properly, I got a few girlfriends to store food long term in Mylar and food grade buckets as a result, I’m glad they listened to me and have now helped their families for what is coming. Thanks for always sharing and inspiring others, together we can help many.

Just a note; the oxygen absorbers only absorb oxygen and since the air in the bag is part oxygen 20 percent, and part nitrogen 80 percent, the nitrogen remains unabsorbed. So, bags sealed in this way won't have the same appearance as a bag which has been vacuum sealed. (like a brick) The nitrogen of course is inert and has no effect on the contents. It's all good if a bag is still a little squishy when using oxygen absorbers.
