Self diagnosed autism and ADHD is on the rise

At the moment i have not self diagnosed but i am concerned that i may have adhd because i have many symptoms for combined adhd. Sadly i am unable to get a diagnosis because no one will believe me :(

Special? Couldn’t it be that those people feel misunderstood and finally feel understood if they could get adhd or autism, like everything they thought was wrong with them just finally made sense why it was..
anyways i havent self diagnosed myself as having audhd but if i dont have either of them, i’d be back to just having to blame all my struggles on myself.. or idk

This middle class obsession with minding your words, has never done me an autistic person any favours. It is not the same as being patient or kind. If I'm fucking up just tell me. In fact I just get in trouble for being too outspoken. It's like Pride and Prejudice but more passive aggressive.

Most of the people I've seen claim autism do so because it explains the struggles they've experienced in life. Few people are so narcissistic to latch on to the label to be cool.

in my opinion if you have the symptoms then you can self diagnose but if some sort of tik tok says "iF yOu EaT pIzZa ThEn YoU hAvE ADHD" then don't believe it and if you identify as having a disorder then just go and rethink your decision

There are also people calling themselves geeks who have no clue about the subject.

Geek was a technical term before it (quickly) became a pejorative. It referred to someone who worked in a carnival sideshow, biting the heads off live chickens.

It does rankle me to see kids identifying themselves into something that is incredibly disabling

Strangely, as soon as I started identifying as “Catholic, ” all of my mental health identities disappeared. 🤷🏻‍♂️
