Cilbir - aka Turkish Eggs - Comfort Food with a Twist

I love finding interesting variations on eggs, and cilbir or Turkish eggs is exactly that. It's just mildly spicy and a little exotic tasting, and served with your choice of bread to mop it up, it's totally "comfort food".

You had me at paprika. You had me at butter. You had me at eggs. Looks Delicious!

As a turkish person who grew up eating cilbir I approve your cilbir 😍 we just did yhe layering differently. First eggs then yogurt then butter. But yours looks better looking.

Serious Keto at its finest. When I think about cooking shows that I occasionally would watch on broadcast or cable a decade ago, the contrast is stark. Only Alton Brown comes to mind as efficient and entertaining (though he had a different style and schtick). If I tried to change anything, I'd make the video worse. Steve's the Mozart of cooking videos. And having most of the recipe's ingredients is the icing on the cake (the only cake and icing I have nowadays...).

The yogurt with the poached egg is amazing. I also saw the ATK version but originally started thinking about it from another content creator who focuses on international recipes. As soon as I saw her face light up tasting the yogurt with the egg, I knew I had to try it. This is a good recipe to personalize to your cupboard and tastes.

Great recipe, Steve. I live on a dairy farm and have access to raw yoğurt. I use that to make my Çilbir. Yum.

Looks delicious. I don't normally cook poached eggs, however, with your video, I think I will be successful.

Never seen anything like this recipe before! 😮😮 sounds extra delicious and as you mentioned, open to a bunch of possible variations and uses. Another one for my “ must try” list - 😊 thanks

You can make it the Kurdish way too by either adding garlic to your yogurt or instead of yogurt, use garlic cottage cheese. My mum is Kurdish and she made it both ways but we always preferred the garlic cottage cheese over the yogurt; it's a lot more filling and the garlic makes it extra nutritious! Bon appetite!

Thank you for including a link to the variable measuring cup. I have been wanting to get one for so long.

Eggs Benedict is one of my favs. I have not tried the unbelievabuns yet but was thinking they'd be great toasted for that. Also what did you use for your flatbread in the recipe? Looked good and haven't found a friendly one yet.

I'm fasting today and wasn't hungry at all....suddenly I'm starving! 😂 I didn't see links in the description to the breads you mention in the video. Would you be so kind as to add them or point me to where I can find them? 🙏🏼

You got me hooked on making eggs in purgatory. It’s on a regular monthly rotation for the family. This recipe looks yummy to me. If and when I make it, it will only be for me. I’m the only one who likes yogurt. 🫤
