Love being in Kansas. No emmission regulations. No testing. Just have to retain atleast one of the factory sound dampening devices. Took out the cat and muffler and put in straight pipes leaving just the factory 5" resonator as my factory sound dampener

I got rid of the pipes on my Challenger from the cat's back, and used 3" with open chamber racing bullets for mufflers and flows so much better than the factory set up did. The setup eliminates the resos and is basically like straight piping, but is better because of the increased diameter and sounds so good on that 6.1 Hemi

Wow talk about good timing. I'm installing my 3" Rawtek turbo back exhaust on my TDI wagen tomorrow.
Thanks for all you do for us Charles.

Tip #1:

*REMOVE Exhaust.*
Straight Headers baby!

I did a header back exhaust upgrade to my Acura TL and it made a night and day difference to the car in how it drives, the throttle response and how smooth the engine performed. I replaced the stock manifolds with headers, upgraded to a magnaflow high flow cat and upgraded the cat back pipes from 2.25" to 2.5" inches in diameter and I swear it feels like the car gained 20hp. So much better mid and top end performance and noise.

Good Choice Of tools man! I Love Milwaukee tools, top of the line stuff and the good thing is that all of the tool batterys are inter-changeable

I upgraded to a Magnaflow for my Pentastar V6. Couldn't be happier! Love the rumble.

You forgot about O2 sensors and repositioning them if they are not in stock places. And the potential ECU problems that may follow and CELs being thrown.

If you can buy an exhaust that uses v-band clamps rather than regular clamps... It will make fitting the exhaust together properly easier and will reduce the chance of anything coming apart.

Very well thought out video!

It's easy to get excited and yank your oem exhaust out (destroying it in the process), only to learn the new exhaust you put on drones to the point of being unbearable.

Excellent point as well about keeping the stock exhaust if you decide to sell, I try to do that with most parts, but only because I learned the hard way trying to sell a fairly heavily modified vehicle.

I’ve been a plumber for 5 years now and I’ve made countless commercial pipe racks. Every time I tried and repair my exhaust I absolutely fail. I am more then happy to pay you guys to do it haha 😂

I agree with replace the hangers.i didn't and now i have contact with heatsheilds and spring perch after about 8 months of running my aftermarket.
Also never under estimate how annoying drone can be at highway speeds. I actually avoid driving one of my cars more then just around town because of the drone.

I took the time to build my set up over the years I have done straight pipe, s.p.with muffler, resonator and muffler then resonator with no muffler. To me over the years it was worth the time and effort still on a stock header an it sounds great to me. However, it does make people think I wanna race them .

Don't know why I've never purchased a pipe cuter like that. I'm going to get one now.

Ha ha. “Tips” for improving your exhaust. Great vid,

That SS sleeve clamp is soooo the way to go for muffler-cat connection. They are amazing. No more fear when the Sawzall comes out 😊

The other thing I try to do is save good hangars, esp if they are metal brackets. Cheap aftermarket rubber hangars really suck in my opinion.

Best exhaust upgrade is a good turbo with a muffler. When I was in my 20s, I ran open headers and sometimes with glass packs but now I like power without the noise.

I just put an aftermarket exhaust on my truck. The new muffler is about a third or so of the size of the factory muffler. It's not louder than the factory, but it does give my truck a nice growl to it.

Love the video Charles. Very useful information. Hey if you would, I'm thinking about getting an aftermarket exhaust for my mk6 Jetta 2.5. I'm looking at a system by AWE. What do you think? Do you have any other ones you know of that you recommend? Thanks!

Don't forget...those extra resonances can lead to interior rattling on a whole new level. Might want to try a catback before spending the extra dough on the full kit.
