Thanks man. I installed Drupal two days ago on all my computers. On the second day I was blind-sided by an update alert. Since I just now installed Drupal I have nothing to loose so I was intending on uncompressing 7.29 and copy it to 7.28 location. Thanks for telling using that the most important directory is sites and that we should never write on  it when upgrading. I guess it is destiny for me to use Drupal. Several months ago I attempted to install Wordpress on my computer. When I meet the "white screen of death", that halted my desire desire to install it on linux. Linux is cool, but often you have to fight to get worthy software on it. I did not feel like fighting to get Wordpress working. It was not a walk-in-the-park to get Drupal installed, but unlike with Wordpress, I put some effort into getting it to work.

Thanks from a Drupal newbie for the clear and easy to follow instructions! I too am getting the "No pending updates" message. However, when I check which version of Drupal core I'm running after following these steps, it appears it actually has been updated. So I'm going to assume it worked...

Thanks so much for this, it saved my life! <3
Btw if anyone else gets error-messages when trying to upload extracted folders into your website's file manager:
I had to upload the .zip folder into my website's file manager first and then extract it there instead of in my desktop file explorer :) Quirky little issue, but at least there's a simple workaround ^^

Hey guys, What do you recommend when doing updates. File Zilla or is there something better. Also will this work for Drupal 8?

Did you work it out? I just followed this tute - had the same problem as you. I went back to my backup and this time only deleted the files that I could match with the update files and now it works perfectly. I believe the issue is because there were files in my original that were not replaced by the core update...

Hello I wonder that you very well in this new year.
Happy new year. I managed to solve the probleme with bootstap.ini...But now, i think i have problems with my index. i have index.php in my web site drupal and not index.html or htm. when i finished loading the files of my website on Fillezillai tired to check if all is well, i found that it is longer problem bootstrap.ini but my index after deduction. instead of displaying my homepage i have the homepage oh my hoster. Would you have anything to offer me ? Please

it is worth to mention that you SHOULD NOT remove .htaccess if you were customizing it before, because it may cause issues with opening website when trying to access update.php

Hi Scott, If we don't clear the files in the end then will those files cause any issue (intall.php, etc)?
