Tutorial Updating Drupal 8, Lesson 5: Core Updates

Just as modules and themes are updated from time-to-time, Drupal itself has regular updates. The process for updating the Drupal core is different from updating modules and themes.

A brilliant set of videos. Clear delivery of the key process for updating, which also make it possible to work out equivalent process if you have a different set up (I am running a local site on devdesktop)

Excellent. Thank you. As a new comer to Drupal, I was stumped when it kept telling me that an upgrade was available. Other videos on the subject are either so arcane and demand lots of prior knowledge or are delivered by people whose accent is so thick I can't understand what's being said.

I was able to upgrade a test site from 8.9.0 to 8.9.17 without issues, thanks to this tutorial.

However, the site I need to upgrade for real, is an old site that was updated to 8.9.0 and not composer ready. And I see 8.9.17 adds composer stuff to the folder. Do I still follow same steps, no matter what?

Also I have 2 additional folders: lib and drivers. What do I do with those?

what if the site is in azure and not in cPanel server, how we will update in that case please tell.

i don't have cpanel on my hosting account. can i do this with file manager? i didn't see these folders in file manager i.e. the ones being deleted. help!!!

The tutorial comments that to update seetings.php you have to change permissions. It does not remind the user to change the permissions back which would leave the site exposed. I also don't like the concept of directly updating a remote site. Would this not be a good place to recommend changes locally and use git to push changes to the remote ?
