I had this done 2022 August. I am writing this in 2024 February. There are no ‘side-effects’ and my face is more aligned. (I should mention- my dentist permitted this because I had wisdom teeth crowning in the back too. So even with extraction I still have the necessary amount of teeth in my upper jaw.) how ever the bridging of the gap between these teeth takes a very very very long time. 7-8 months in my case. Wishing you a happy smile.

I had extractions, and I can say from experience that while it is sometimes necessary, it isn't all the time. I got all my premolars taken out when I was 12, and it has greatly impacted my quality of life. Don't blindly go into it like my parents and I did, it will not help you.

Guys Idk why am I even writing this when I can ignore all the negative comments but this is for the people who are going for extractions: IT CAN BE NECESSARY SOMETIMES FOR GOD'S SAKE!!! I am by no means an expert but a patient who needs extractions to FIX MY FACE. I have overjet, crowding, narrow upper jaw and minimal overbite. I am currently using an upper jaw expander (though this might not be given to you) but I'll have to have extractions afterwards because there is no way I can look normal without them. I have such protruding teeth that I can't close my mouth without forcing all of my face muscles. By extracting two teeth I'll finally have a normal side profile AND relaxed muscles. I have discussed all of my options and by not extracting teeth I am going to lose more teeth so people in the comments who have never had crowding, please do not make people unnecessarily anxious about the process. And while yes there might be complications with the process it all depends on your case some needs extractions some don't. If you are anxious about the process discuss it with as many orthodontists as you can and try to get second opinions and please be relaxed!!!
update: I got my premolars removed many months ago and have miniscrews that are pulling my jaw back, so far so good! People are telling me that I look way better and that even my nose looks better since I'm not constantly forcing my upper lip to cover my bulging front teeth :D Good luck on anyone on this journey👍

I was so scared of the extraction process but it doesn’t hurt at all the real pain is when you tighten the braces after the extraction, I couldn’t eat for good 5 days and my whole face hurt so bad

guys removing my premolars has significant helped me in a lot of ways like for example I had a narrow pallet and now I have more room and more space, probably from my nance appliance that they applied so that my teeth won’t shift during braces and if u feel anxious don’t ! I genuinely think u only get “ side effects “from more then 4 teeth or if they take out 4 of them I’m in braces now and I haven’t noticed anything different but my teeth looking wayy better .😭

Does this change ur face shape? I mean I have an overbite and my face looks fine, but it may look bad if they remove a pair of teeth from the upper jaw and the upper jaw moves back

Worst thing you can possibly do. Your jaw is probably underdeveloped. If you worsen the one part, your upper jaw, that is developed and retract it, it’s just gonna worsen the airway and make breathing worse.

Kind sir, why did you finish an end-on malocclusion in proper class II ? You could have easily corrected it to class I or left it as it is ?🤷🏻‍♂️ Although the former would have been better.

So I have a severe overbite, I feel like this operation would cause the lower half of my face to look sunken in. Like, really sunken in.

HORRIFYING. PREMOLAR EXTRACTION IS ALMOST ALWAYS NOT EVEN NECESSARY AND IS DETRIMENTAL TO THE TMJ
