This reminds me of an Indiana State Fair incident with my Quarter Horse in approx 1975. I was riding my horse in the arena when a HUGE Percheron Mare and her baby were being led by. My horse just stopped, ears pricked in amazement at full attention. He was absolutely stunned by the HUGENESS of these magnificent horses. “The BABY” was larger than my 15 hand horse. Joey, my horse didn’t move an inch until the pair had completely passed beyond sight. This event was almost 50 years ago and is etched into my memory forever. RIP Sky Hi Jo.

This is a great reminder that despite being huge and powerful, horses are still a prey species. They spook easily and are very wary of anything they haven't seen before.

What's great is that all the other horses and the donkey were quiet. That was like they all knew exactly how he felt and what they should do. They are so incredibly intelligent.

You can see the emotion in his eyes and he was terrified. He has all reason to be, donkeys can be some very ferocious animals! Yet so so cute, sweet and affectionate as well.

It can be a lifetime preference, I had a horse who hated donkeys with a vengeance and never got over it, while another had one as a companion when he retired and they adored each other. This poor guy just wanted the safety of his box and the door bolted shut😂😂
