This is technically a reupload of my Civ 1 playthrough but all together in one shot for those who prefer it that way. Enjoy!

Thanks for this trip down memory lane! This was my first civilization game.

You have to imagine yourself in the early 80's when there was nothing else like Civ (not counting board games). It was revolutionary. Before this Sid Mier put out Railroad Tycoon which was also revolutionary.

What a throwback. I miss building your throne. Was hoping they brought it back in Civ7. Maybe in 8.

I'm nearly 3 hours into this playthough, and I must say this is really fun! Do you have/plan to post more of these kind of videos? Your way of playing and commentary is truly entertaining. Great work!

I remember Darwin's Voyage being one of my favourite wonders as a kid. Why? ... Because of the tortoise... > 3>

You think a knight losing to a militia is bad? How about losing a battleship to a settler?

I am just halfway there, so sorry if I am stating something you found out later, but maybe it helps more people:
Right clicking on a tech or tile will bring the help
You need to disband outdated units, but (I think 50%) of its shield cost goes into next production, so it is sort of easy to upgrade units (just a bit micro-managey)
You didn't knew about changing tiles? It is the same in Civ2! mining grasslands do build forest, irrigating forests makes it into flatlands... Still, same prod/food improvements.
Democracy and Republic just don't make any sense: Because you are in war 95% of the time on this game, Communism is the way to go.

First time I watch anyone playing this game on Youtube, have been binging during free times for the last week. Always went on my way. I am picking so many new strategies! And your video was super entertaining to watch, so keep it up!
Also... This palace... Makes me want to scratch my eyes out of my face... My OCD 😢

Lol, I also regularly play Civ2 and tough pyramids give a granary on each city.... I was so disappointed!. AI on this game is really frustrating and annoying, but the rest of the game is so damn fun. Also, for Civ 1 & 2, all resources can be reached from a city if they can move as a horse on chess, or basically: two tiles on a straight line from the city, and then either left/right.

If you wanna know the real powerplay:
Start on earth as Russians, your starting location is full of forests, which the game interprets as it being a "poor location", meaning you usually get 2 settlers.
If you don't mind savescumming, just hunt goodie huts for free cities and tech.
The strat is basically to get as many cities and rush to republic ASAP. Make sure at least your capital is 3 population as you get republic.
Once republic you can get "love the president bonus" in pop > 2 cities that have over half happy citizens and no unhappy citizens. This will give you +1 pop per turn at that city.
So do that and just print pop.
If you don't mind playing dirty you can use the "settler cheat" which is this: if you order a settler to do an improvement, but then cancel it in the same turn, doing the same improvement at that location again will further its completion. Rinse repeat. Meaning settlers can complete any improvement within 1 turn.
So anyways from there it's mostly just rushing to railroad, industrialize a bit, keep pumping science, and so on.
This strat put the WR for earliest space race victory at an impressive 2500 BC.

3:24:30 China was not pink, china is never pink, each civ has two associated colors (like Roman share white with Russians or Egypt shares yellow with Aztecs) and if one gets destroyed it is always the corresponding color for the respawning civ. Meaning the English civ was there from the start.

Settlers can clean up pollution, I think. Takes a while but helps reduce the global warming meter.
