You so so right about supporting each other as artists/photographers it provides a real sense of community and belonging to the creative spirit

There is one thing which is even much more satisfying than printing a photo which was taken yesterday. It's creating reverse positive paper pictures with a large format camera (11x14" in my case). It's like creating a painting of a person or a landscape, just much faster. When you're ready, you've created a one-time piece, a unique original. You can of course scan it and print it, just like any painting, but there will always be a difference between an original and multiples, which actually don't have an original at all. So the gear which has changed my game the most is my 11x14 camera (and its little 5x7 sister).

Thanks you Adam for your insightful comments. Emotion is a great part of photography, it can and does stir our emotion at the time the image was captured.

I got a Canon PRO-300 a few months ago and oh my, it's amazing! Ilford Gold Fibre Gloss is my go to paper (such a fabulous paper! I've tried lots of papers and every photo I've tried looks better on the Gold Fibre Gloss than anything else) and the PRO-300 produces amazing prints without any fuss or hassle...I love it! It's definitely so rewarding to actually have a print in your hand.

And supporting other photographers is wonderful - I'm starting with buying books (1 every few months-ish)...I love sitting down with a cuppa and looking/reading through a lovely photography book - so inspiring and gives such a good connection to the photographer...your book is on my list Adam in the next few months!

Every time I turn on YouTube and start watching any of my favorite photography channels, and yours would be included on that list, I end up spending money that I don't have LOL it's a sickness. But I will say one thing, I would never want to be without my Canon pro 1000 printer. Photography without the print is pointless as far as I'm concerned. I just started shooting film again too after 22 years. Developing and digitizing - LOVE IT! ♥️♥️♥️

A wonderful piece, all around. Your advice about getting a printer, which I eventually did after years and years of thinking a screen was enough, was a “game-changer, ” as you said. It has actually made me into a better photographer (I think), and much better at my post-processing (I am pretty sure). And you are absolutely right about supporting and learning from other photographers, and looking at their Instagram posts just doesn’t do the job.

Well said about buying prints. Not having too much space at home, I now collect boxed print sets. Every now and then I spent a very enjoyable evening looking through these small prints, which are so much easier to store and handle than big prints. The size is similar to a coffee table book but brings all the tactile and visual appeal of a real fine art print at an accessible price.

A very good video Adam. One of your earlier videos on printing inspired me to get a bit more serious about my photography. After a long time of just casually taking images, getting a "pro" printer (the 300) has completely reinvigorated my love of photography. I firmly believe It does make you a better photographer as it makes you more committed to reach a desired output when shooting then editing. I could see that workflow when you decided on making that beautiful panorama in the last video. A big Thank You!!

Great content, Adam. I always look forward to catching your videos. Can you make some recommendations on your favorite tripods and ballheads? Keep up the great work!

Ifootage cobra 2 monopod, mindshift firstlight 40l and the backlight 18l, and the capture clip are definitely some of my favorites.

Adam, thank you so much for the printer recommendations and information. I have been afraid to attempt my own printing but you made it seem so doable and I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I love all of your content. You make the complexity of photography seem so approachable for a newbie like me. THANK YOU and please keep doing what you do. Much love!

Thanks for sharing all your videos and art through photography. I appreciate how you take us on the journey with you to acquire that one special shot. I’m also so thrilled that the “story” does not stay buried in digital media, but that it finds a home hugged by a frame and on a wall. As a subscriber to your channel, I was happy to purchase your book to support your endeavors. I feel like we are a dying breed sometimes.

I have been completely happy with my Shimoda Action X30 bag. It holds all of my gear, has the roll-up top if I need a bit more space, is all-day comfortable, and after a few years of use, it still looks new. The inexpensive rain cover keeps the bag clean when I set it down on wet dirt or sand.

I just bought the Shimoda X70 last week. It’s gratifying seeing it so highly recommended by you (and a few others as well). I can’t wait for it to arrive!

110% agree with the Shimoda x50. I have just come back from a very wet trip to the Lake District and it was superb. It is so reassuring knowing your bag will keep you gear and your back in top condition.

Just want to mention one thing I feel is very important regarding printers - PRINTERS REQUIRE REGULAR USE AND CARE TO RUN PROPERLY, BE CAREFUL BUYING USED.

Getting a used Canon Pro-10s for £150 is an absolute steal - and as Adam mentions they can be found for this amount on marketplace and Ebay.

What isn't so clear is that when buying a used printer you need to be REALLY careful and do your research beforehand. Has it been used regularly - if not, is the head clogged? How badly is the head clogged, can it be cleaned via the print menu or is it so bad a new head is needed (another £150).

Then comes the issues of inks - has the printer been used with original Canon inks or decent 3rd party inks (like octoinkjet or precision colors), or has it been used with cheap Chinese catridges from Ebay. If the latter is true and its been left to sit - it may be clogged up beyond repair.

I bought a used (sold as working) Canon Pro-10s myself and it was totally clogged up and beyond working when I got it home to try it - only after two days of manually cleaning the printhead multiple times with special cleaning solution and an entirely new set of inks (at least £45 from Octoinkjet, otherwise £100+ from Canon) did I get it up and running again.

They are wonderful pieces of kit and Adam is right to recommend them - but please dont fall into the trap of thinking they're just another electronics item like I did, they require care and regualr use (at least once a week!) to be kept in working order. Otherwise you might be in for a headache. If possible, buy a printer that can be shown as working and includes good inks - if not you might want to factor in the cost of a new printhead and replacement inks into your investment.

I have 2 camera bags, one for when I travel as I can take all my gear in the car or on a plane, but I use a smaller one when I go out and shoot as it forces me to think about what i will take in terms of lenses and is easier on the back and knees. Game changer for me was moving to a geared head as having the ability to have more precision and in turn slow me down when composing my shot
