Well done!! An old botanist taught me to dig the hole square, to prevent root girdling. Roots like to take the easiest path they can find and if your soil is poor quality and hard shale or clay, they may just grow round and around in the hole because it’s easier than penetrating the harder soils. If the hole is square, they grow until the edge/corners and are forced to grow in. I’ve used this method for 5 years now, works a treat. Happy growing everyone and thanks for the video and tips :)

Omg you are a breath of fresh air. Sometimes I might not need the tip you are giving but you are like daytime asmr....

AM I THE ONLY ONE who cannot mentally cope with videos I really wanted to watch but couldn't because they are narrated in monotone list monologs listing only tasks, not an experience... I didn't even know I was looking for a sign to plant a tree but now I think I got the call. Love your work!!!

I know this is a random request, but how do you maintain your genuine happy attitude? Im surrounded by a lot of fake positivity and feel put off by it because (1) it doesn't feel genuine and (2) they impose their version of what being "happy/positive" is on me and everyone else. Your videos make me smile because of how sincere you are. Your attitude comes off natural and doesn't make people feel like they need to match your energy to "fit in". I would love to hear your journey!

Good job on educating about the root flare. That’s probably the most common mistake people make when planting a tree.

You make it look so easy. Thank you, Kaleb! Any advice for rehabbing a non-Kaleb-planted tree (Kousa dogwood) that suffered heat stress shortly after its transplant last fall? Leaves scorched and have not dropped; branches are still supple and seemingly alive, but buds are not forming/enlarging. Should I try to work Biotone in around the perimeter? Thanks for any advice. 😉

Donj't forget to break up the compacted soil beneath where you are planting that tree.

If your root ball is snug and tight you may also need to open it up a little.

You want the roots to dig and you want to make it easy for them to do it!

Shouldn't you loosen the root ball a little bit so it doesn't get all twisted up and die? I had a tree do that before

Water as you fill. This will settle the soil better.

Grafted trees are more prone and susceptible to diseases and rotting where the graft is on the trunk
