MAXXIS TYRES | THE MOST OPTIMAL MTB ENDURO SETUP?

Показать описание
Question: What is the most optimal set of maxxis tyres for riding enduro?
The sport of mountain biking is bleeding me dry of money and I don't want to spend an extra dollar if I don't have to.
In this video I try and find the sweet spot between grip, strength and price for Maxxis tyres.
Please comment your front and rear maxxis tyre setup. Tread, compound and casing.

Good to know as I have only ever run Michelin Wild Enduro since getting back into riding again and they have been great but if I decide to try Maxxis at some point this will help

Garigal Rider also, Assegai EXO Max Terra Front and Dissector Max Terra EXO+ rear. Dissector roles fast but it wears quickly and side knobs tend to start ripping off. Dissector EXO casing have had more punctures than any other Maxxis Rear used i.e. Aggressor.

The is also Minion SS which is a good fast option for the rear, it’s like the aggressor but the centre tread is shaved down which gives less drag. Double down is not just about tire slashing, it’s good for side wall support so you don’t get tire squirm in corners and support so you don’t bottom out the rim in technical sections.

Front maxxis assegai 29 x 2.5. Rear maxxis dissector 29x2.4. They came with the bike purchase. Seem to be doing well. Learning alot in this video.

Shorty is actually pretty good in rough Rocky stuff, especially loose,

On harder ground i like the minion ss.

Normally i run assegai dd or dh maxxgrip front and dhr or highroller or dissector DD/DH maxterra rear

Heavier casings have better dampening effect and can run lower pressure

Ps: i live in europe, alps are very different here 😂

If its mostly dry, you could get away with maxterra front and dual compound rear, lasts a lot longer if thats a concern for you

I run a dissector on the front and a dhr2 on the rear both 2.4 inch. I run the dissector on the front cos a mate of mine did and suggested i try it, much better than i thought too

On my enduro bike i have the DHF 2.5 exo plus on the front & a Aggressor 2.4 DD on the rear. I came from a DHR 2 exo plus on the rear and significantly noticed it rolled faster on the aggressor despite going DD. No tears or punches, and they have ben ridden hard.
For my DH bike i have an DH Assagi on the front and dissector DD on rear. (would have gone DH but couldnt find one).
pretty happy with setup. Ride Glenrock, Awaba, dutngog and rocky Ourimbah .

If there's going to be climbing, front = Maxxis high roller 2 2.5WT exo (or exo+) maxxterra. Rear = Maxxis DHR2 2.4 exo+ maxxterra with a Rimpact Pro tyre insert.

If shuttling downhill tracks, front = Maxxis assegai 2.5 DH casing super tacky. Rear = Maxxis DHR2 2.4 DH casing super tacky with a Rimpact Pro or a Cushcore tyre insert.

This is for my Meta AM29 with 170mm front and 160mm rear suspension travel.

If my preferred front tyres are out of stock, DHR2s work well, particularly on steep stuff Or there's always the DHF.
If my preferred rear tyre is out of stock, Dissectors or even DHFs work well.

I stay away from Double Down casing tyres, I find they feel terrible, and if I'm going to add that much weight I may as well go straight to the DH tyres.

Hi Rod...I used to run an aggressor on the rear and dhf front but after trying lots of various options... I'm just sticking with Assagai front and rear with double down exo casings...I run a tubeless set up and ride pretty much all the same trails as you along with 10 days in thredbo over xmas and mt stromlo.. I've never had a flat..tyre pressures are also critical...if it's soft and sandy say around the dam I usually run 25 psi rear 22 psi front.. still never had a flat.. then if it's harder packed 26 front 30 rear.
The bottom line is there is not one tyre combo that suits all conditions, and regarding price... I'd rather pay a bit more and have to replace a tyre a month early as opposed to sliding out and breaking my collar bone...( medical bill...time off work etc).
Cheers

Assegai/dhr2, then run the lightest casing you can without flatting. For me that's DH on the enduro rig, and exo+ with a thicc insert in the rear on the trail bike. I'm also a fan of the dissector (the ass-dissector combo) which comes in better compounds than the aggressor. You might as well run slicks if you run dual compound tyres in the wet.

just got the new spectral 29, coming with dhr II front and rear but probably going to keep the dhr II on the back and put an assagai on the front when it wears out.

I’ve always seen DHF as “Downhill Freeride” and DHR as “downhill Race”
I’ve been using DHR’s for my rear for a long time, my mate wants my to try high roller as he swears by them.
And assagai for front, haven’t used max grip on the front as for some reason I’ve only found the opposites… grip on DHR and terra on assagai 🤷🏼‍♂️😂

I thought that running an Aggressor on the rear was the solution to the fast rolling conundrum. It was not. No grip. Slippery on rocky bits. Dissector for the win on rear.
