This is why I will never use a browser-based application for professional purposes. I want a program on my machine which I can use regardless of connection status, and it can properly interface with my system.

There's actually something easier to do than downloading an image and then dragging and dropping it into Figma. You can go to the image in your browser, right click on it and click "Copy image". Then go back to Figma and just paste it. Maybe that's the reason why they didn't/don't want to add this feature. Because it's almost similar, in terms of time spent, to the drag and drop method

The browser Eye Dropper API (which can do what you’re describing) is supported only in chromium based browsers, maybe that’s why.
Their color picker is a custom one they created and to use it outside of the canvas context would probably involve some hack like turning the html into a canvas, outside of the browser’s viewport it’s impossible.
