Khomeini doesn’t like zionist but he knew that Iranian Jews are one of native peoples in Iran and he doesn’t have any problem with that

Ayatollah Khomeini (and the current supreme leader of Iran) had no palaces or villas. He resided in a place that was rented for him. And his lifestyle was very simple, as an average, or below average person in Iran.

Very encouraging story - I realize the difference between being proud and arrogant

Persians view Jews with high esteem. This stuff you see in the news is just politics. If you spoke to the people in Iran they have nothing bad to say. Jews have lived in Iran for a long time side by side Persians and other ethnic groups. People forget that Persia has always been, and still is a very diverse nation.

I like that he said not arrogant but still proud as in confident.. confidence in God.

Appreciate that it was Khomeini who respected Rabbi Hershman. Had there been a proxy British colony chieftain, Saudi King, before afternoon Rabbi's head would be rolling out of his torso. Stooges never respect even the proud people, it is only a free man who knows how to respect another free man regardless of his race, religion or sect.

Great wise story teaches us to keep resisting and to rely on HaShem’s support if we never bow except to HaShem like mordhkay.
We have to keep our self-respect to gain the others’ respect.
Never lose hope or surrender.

Salaam Rabbi. Thank you for the story and explaining the moral of it. You may want to consider two more morals of the story.

As I heard why the Rabbi didn’t prostrate, that he could not bow to anyone except HaShem (the one God of the Torah) and that due to foreign language he could not tell who they’re bowing to, as a Muslim, I expected the Imam (leader), Khomeini, even an ordinary Muslim who must believe in the first tenet of Islam (la ilaha illa Allah – there’s no god but Allah (the one God of the Torah – and Qur’an) to respect, and embrace, the Rabbi not only for his courage to stand up (the moral you explain), but also because he himself would not have bowed to anyone except Allah (HaShem – literally, The Name).

So a second moral of the story is as believers in the same one God in the Torah (and Qur’an),
Jews and Muslims are first and foremost brothers in faith despite differences in nationality and language.

A third moral of the story is, with regard to Khomeini allowing the Jewish citizens going outside during curfew, in Islam, it is a divine commandment from Allah (HaShem) and was a practice of his prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) that everyone is free to practice his faith and the commandments of HaShem (Allah) is superior to any human law, including Iran or Khomeini’s.

You may also want to consider Khomeini allowing the Jewish (rather than an Israeli) symbol on the cover of the Torah (and bag) from the perspective of these two additional morals – and the genuine love and respect every Muslim has for our Jewish brothers in Abrahamic faith.

HaShem knows best. May Allah guide you and me. Shalom ❤️
