Dr. Attia and Dr. Huberman grip strength test

@peterattiamd is talking about strength assessment tests that they use at his clinic with @hubermanlab. One of the tests is a 2-minute grip strength test. If you’re a man you carry two dumbbells that total your bodyweight, and if you’re a woman you carry two dumbbells that total 75% of your bodyweight.

I weigh approximately 240lbs, so I carried two 120lb dumbbells for as long as I possibly could. I only lasted 70 seconds. I think this is way more difficult than being able to deadlift your bodyweight for 10 reps. There are very few people capable of passing this test. Try it out.

Thank you fior this. I was trying to figure out how this is a standard . The reality is these are elite numbers he expects.

They must’ve made this up. I’d be absolutely shocked if they could do it themselves. I’m not sure people realize how much weight this is for it to be a “standard”

According to his book Outlive it's at least 1 minute, not 2 - which makes it still big challenge but much more achievable!

They also said a 2minute hang from pull-up bar is were they want like a 40 year old male to be…to me that’s also wild…I’m 40, 6’3” 206, I’m in decent shape. My record is 1min 18sec. Go take an overhand grip on a pull-up and try to hang for TWO minutes dead hang. It’s very tough

40 yo weighing 140 and I rock climb at an intermediate level. Can do my bodyweight for around 60s. 120s is totally unreasonable for someone who doesn't train specifically for just farmer carry

Of course the feasibility of it decreases with increased weight in a non linear way.

I got 66 seconds today with my body weight of 200.
I'm 73 Y.O., and have trained in the gym for about 48 years . . . No way could I do 120 seconds !!

I worked in assisted living for 20 years. I guarantee you that none of the 100 yr olds living there can perform this test. And probably never could. 100. Think about that. lol.
